Is this a good price for a new production computer?

Maybe dedusting my computers every half a year or so pays out in that regard.

It's a matter of wear and tear that comes with age. The weaker the component those are the ones that fail. Heat is the most common offender before current surges.

As I understood it (and correct me if I'm wrong) this is one of the few features you need to disable in the BIOS, since throttling & speed-stepping causes audio glitches.

I found and read a few forums with ppl telling they had this issue. As it turns out the Turbo Boost is only the catalyst and it's actually something else failing in the system that is being effected by the TB.

I tried and just can't make a case for Dell after what you just presented me with. Now what? Do I call him to tell him I don't want it now after it's been paid for and confirmed? I don't know what to do. I have a 3 yr warranty with Dell, maybe it will work OK and I'll be happy with it? SHIT!

Thanks a lot really, for making up that list and investigating all that. When I saw that Fractal case, I could have cried. I don't know what to do.

You know that the Quest2 has a better resolution than the Rifts, the original Vive and the Vive Pro 1, right?
And the Vive Pro 2 is more than 4 times the cost of the Quest 2.

Your right. I am new to gaming, and honestly not that interested in the game end of it, but it's the VR that has me interested. I have watched numerous full episodes of sadly it's bradley and Virtual Reality Oasis to get my VR news and technical background. Quest2 is a great headset and even better tied to PC. I am aware of new headset schemes coming down the pike that I want to wait for. Spending $300+ for the Quest2 will not break the bank, but I recently made a major blunder buying the Dell without waiting for advice. It's not the end of the world but it hurts. I think I'm going to have to just accept it.

Eye tracking, auto accommodation, brighter OLED utilizing new and better optics...and lots more will be coming along soon enough.
This new PC is mainly to get back into music creation and more serious production. The VR can wait, and the extra expence that comes with it.

Thanks for seeing that I knew about the great possibilities the Quest can offer me now.

I could do just that, cancel it, but I feel obligated. The salesman was so gracious and spent a good deal of time with me working it out so I get the best of what he / Dell could offer. I am going to have him phone me again and I'll put my dilemma to him and see what he says. I'll make my decision based on that.

My dilemma is not one of business practice but the feeling that I take responsibility for my own action when the other party is not at fault. Dell did nothing wrong in this transaction. I can only sort it out with the salesman and me at this point. If he is understanding of my situation, then I'll feel OK with it. I'm calling him Monday morn.

I actually watched that review video yesterday. Since then I did some research with the help of a 'build your own gaming PC' video @YT. I later discovered that the Dell config will not be able to deliver what's necessary to drive a VR headset. I found a config that is more then $100 cheaper, preassembled, and twice the SSD capacity (same as your suggestion), and a GForce RTX 2060 GPU. GForce recommends 500watts system power for that card, and the Dell tops out @ 500w. Dell doesn't offer a larger one, and of course Dell is proprietary as you must know already so I can't upgrade on my own. The new system I chose comes with a 600w PSU. What this means for me...I need to cancel my order w/Dell because what they can offer me will not work w/VR. The minimum GPU I need just to get by with good results w/VR is the RTX 2060 which is also VR headset ready with Nvidia"VirtualLink" and Dell does not offer the RTX 2060. The card they do offer is more then I want to spend.(I think the RTX 3070)
I can cancel guilt free !

OK, I can understand that. As it stands, choosing from the ABS pre-assembled PCs @ Newegg, I don't see much choice without going well beyond what I need to spend or jumping over to an i5. I was planning to install a liquid cooler when I get the VR headset later on. So for audio, I'll be fine with this average heatsink. I know I don't have the latitude buying a pre-assembled vs building it myself, but I don't have the patience to build it myself.

One question...it's offering Win 10 home. Will the home edition be OK?

This $1200 system + liquid cooler should do me fine. (assuming I get what I expect to get) I'm a retired electronics tech with background repairing OEM computer systems up to the early `90s. I built a P4 hyperthreaded box w/2 raid 0s around 2001. That's where my knowledge leaves off, not speaking of all that I've forgotten. I know how easy assembling a PC is. I just don't need to do it so I won't.

The 'games' I'll be 'playing' won't be fast action, but more like 'Lone Echo', Brink Traveler', Simply Planes' and other sorts of emersion. Here's one to be released later this yr called Hubris VR and this flight sim called VTOL VR So In other words, not CPU / GPU intensive compared to battles and the like. There will be lots more to do in VR in the near future I hope.
The way DAWs handle VST(i) in respect to numbers of cores/threads over CPU speed is that tracks are handled like single applications. All the audio /VSTi / VST on one track is allocated to a single core. When tracks are mixed together you create a bottle neck since all the threads are going through your single master buss. So...if you spread your vst out across multiple tracks then master the rendered audio instead, there's plenty of CPU available for large projects.
My new system should be able to handle what I will throw at it no sweat. And for $1200, I can afford that and upgrade when I get into VR.
EDIT - Dell OEM PC has been cancelled !!! I just did it online since luckily it has not yet been assembled. Yippie!!!

EDIT2 - Just read a GForce RTX 2060 GPU review (20 series) saying that the 2060 was not better then the card it was replacing, so Nvidia bumped up the specs and added 'Super' to the name. The reviewer says putting the low end 2060 (no super) in the PC package I am eyeing, is just a way to rip me off by cutting corners where they can to make a profit. Where have I heard that before...hmmm.
