The slow vst scanning when starting the session wasn´t issue with the Live 9, but
Live 11 suite is a nighmare. In both of my i7 RAM 32 computers.

Obviously this is discussed earlier in the Kvr as well, because
I found several Forum threads talking about this - but no solution.
The most common "solution" is the –NoVstStartupScanmfake-one,
(see:https://www.homemusicmaker.com/stop-abl ... nning-vsts.)
which dosn´t work in my latest Win 10, anyway. (And, according to the net comments,
I´m not the only one.)

Ableton has the poorest so called support in the world, no reply for the ticket in 1,5 months time,
therefore tried to ask, if anyone here has a clue, how to solve this.

How is this possible, a such a major defect in the one of most popular DAW - seems that this has been issue since the Live ver. 10 (Win). It seems, that Ableton has tried to "fix" the Live 9 need
for re-scanning, but I´d rather do the re-scen of the plugins, than wait 2 minutes every time
when starting a session, waiting for the DAW doing the vst-scan, which you can´t (?) prevent.

Or maybe I should move using the Cubase, I own the 11 pro, so far been more or less in the reserve.

For me (i7-8750h laptop, 16GB, around 600 plugins) Live 11 finally starts quick and also seems to scan plugins when it's already running. 10 was a nightmare, but they made 11 great again ;)

I was most disappointed after installing the Live 11 suite: before the upgrade all the reviews and verdicts told, how quick it was supposed to be.

But the reality is quite an opposite, Live 11, in that sense, is a piece of shit. My Live 9 was 20x faster.

Live 11 is as slow as the Ableton support.

It's been going downhill ever since they included M4L. I miss the last version before it, when Live opened in a sec and was dead-stable.

Disabling vstscan as well as Max have speeded up my bootup here, but it's still a ton slower than any of my other 5 daws.

You call 5 seconds a slow startup time? My Live 11, Mac OS 10.14.6. iMac 2019, 72GB RAM.
120 VST, about a 100 each AU and VST3. :hihi:
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

No, I call 1,5 - 2,1 minutes a slow startup time.

As reported above, that can’t be a coincidence or a exception, because both of my rather new computers (Win 10) suffer the same Live 11 behaviour.

The problem came with Live 10. Live 11 is better but nowhere close to Live 9.
I switched to using VST3 only. That seems to help.

Why can’t they just make the vst-scan optional? If that was turned off, you could do manual re-scan when needed, just like in Live 9.
Shouldn’t be a big deal to make that change.

Because it doesn't perform full scan in v11. As I said, I've 500+ plugins and it launches very quickly, like 15-20s perhaps.

Possibly a vst plugin that hasn't been registered/activated. Sometimes the plugin is supposed to give a popup or something for it and it might not be shown to the user. Live probably waits for it and then gets a timeout.

A daw shouldn't do a full scan at startup everytime, i doubt Live does it. Perhaps the shell plugins(e.g. Waves) are a problem in Live. Perhaps Live has to instanciate every single plugin in the shell to look if it's an instrument or effect.

Live isn't slow because of the scanning of vst's (ok, might be a few sec, but that's all), it's rather the implementation of Max.
I've been a Live-user since v4, and it used to open in a few sec's before they added that swampnest in the code.

1. live 11 suite does not perform a new scan everytime it starts up, only when vst2 (vst3 is done later) are changed or added.
2. scanning isn't slower or faster than other DAW's.
(3. my experience with ableton support, independent of how you think of the DAW, is quite excellent. 1,5 month is not normal. the contact i had; fast, to the point, friendly, etc.)

so if you experience a slow, or a repeated vst scan while nothing has changed.

or it does not scan, it just slow, something else is a problem.

live 11 suite starts up quite quick.

If you are on a windows machine, make sure that you omit the vst folder for virus scans. True Live 11 is much slower than 9 but MUCH better than 10. Mine is over a minute but have hundreds of plugins. i9 128gb RAM, 18TBs off SSDs.

And run as Admin.
