Audioengine (HD3 or A2+) vs something else? Small desktop powered speakers (not for music production).

Does anyone here have these or something like it? I'm trying to. pick up a pair of "decent" sounding and decently priced speakers in a small size that will mostly be used at a lower volume.

I would not use a subwoofer with this setup. I don't expect a big bass response either, but just want it to not sound like crap.

I have a set of Bose Companions II that were bought cheaply, but as expected these are extremely bass-heavy even when EQ'd and I want to avoid that.

Any feedback on these models, or any suggestions?

For sizes, I'm trying to keep the size around the HD3 (7″(17.8 cm) x 4.25″ (10.8 cm) x 5.5″ (14 cm)).

Something like a Mackie CR-X 3 or 4?

This might work too. The CR-x 3 would definitely fit the size requirement. I saw reviews before beating up these small Mackies as a monitor, but should be fine for playback.

The Mackies are too big. It’s the same reason I’m staying away from the presonus monitors which are just $100

These Audioengine ones are small
