it's rather subtle but can be set to aggressive: Wavesfactory Spectre - Also the Fabfilter one is nice

all the modes and presets morphing in ohmicide make it quite special. in hindsight they should've gone w/that should've put effort into that rather than the ohmboyz Infinity delay/multifx plug in as 'relaunch' of the brand.
there's just something about the ohmicide algorithms that have such presence.

I have not found any vst distortion that comes
close to Ohmicide. I luv digital vst distortions,
but when it comes to sounding as analog and organic as my best distortion pedals, Ohmicide takes 1st place. No, the GUI cant be scaled, but on Win 10 the 64bit version runs as smooth as always.

Does it really run on Monterey/Apple Silicon? I really want to buy this plugin but im afraid it won't run because on their website it says ist not compatible with os later than 10.16. Can you confirm that the installer runs and works perfectly within the daw without any GUI glitches like it did on Big Sur?dayjob wrote: Mon Dec 13, 2021 4:24 amstrangely, ohmicide is working great on apple silicon and Monterey. it didn't work at all on Big Sur so it's pretty weird that it's now 'fine'. i'm listening to it shred a drum loop right now and so stoked about it.mholloway wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 11:21 pm Minimal Audio RIFT has been my ohmicide replacement. Different, yes; fantastic, absolutely. Ohmicide is abandonware and crashes my DAW most times I use it.
nothing really sounds like it but Rift is probably the best place to look for similar feedback styles and waveshaping.
it's a real shame about ohmforce.
Thank you very much

i can't confirm the installer is running perfectly. i used migration assistant when i got a new mac so it brought everything over that way.. all works fine. guis are fine.. sounds great.emilrueegg wrote: Tue Dec 28, 2021 10:17 pmDoes it really run on Monterey/Apple Silicon? seems someone had success installing it but had some hoops to jump through.

Trash, Saturn, Kombinat, any multiband distortion can replace it, but if it's as good as Ohmicide is subjective.
Thankfully it's still working here.
But tbh, the company needs a kick up the arse.

OP: Can you share a link to a track you've done with Ohmicide that you like the sound of the drive?
To others: can you link to your own tracks where you're using a drive that you think sounds like Ohm's?
COMPLETELY coincidentally: I just happened to play an album of mine that I hadn't played in two years, and I am finding I love the sound of the overdrive. ...I remember quite clearly that, for the album, I had just bought the full Soundtoys package, and I was (over)using their drive plugins. I had convinced myself, (after the album had a reception of falling flat on its face), that it was the fault of Soundtoy's over-saturated, deep, driven sound.
But as I'm listening to it now with fresh ears. ...I really dig the drive, man. It's intense without being overwhelming. Really, really saturated and just starting to break up, but still has clarity and presence.
I had uninstalled Soundtoys and not looked back... but I think that was a big mistake, now!

I think all of our answers aren't really hitting at the actual question here.
The question is not "what are some other plugins labelled as 'multi-band distortion' units (seems the majority of the answers are of this type, just listing other 'multi-band distortion' plugins....).
But the thing about Ohmicide is the SOUND it makes. I have never, ever heard Kombinat Tri sound like Ohmicide. Nor have I heard Decapitator sound like it. Nor have I heard Saturn sound like it. I own all of those, and use them to varying degrees. They don't sound like Ohmicide.
So no, I dont' think any of those are suitable replacements for ohmicide, because I simply can't make them sound like Ohmicide. That's not 'subjective', that's quite literal: I can't make them sound the same.
Rift is a new favorite, for sure (and my original answer in this thread) but the truth is it's a very different beast altogether and sure enough, can't replace Ohmicide, if by 'replace' we mean ( as we should ) Sound the Same As.

I don't own Ohmicide, so I cannot contribute without examples. I am curious, though.
EDIT: there are, of course, the company's demos, but I don't think that's terribly helpful, since it covers a rather wide variety of drives. ...I'll be honest: I wasn't impressed by these demos; they sounded rather brittle and digital to me, but if that's what you're looking for, that's totally fair. To my ears (which, granted, are not well-tuned for distortion, but I am trying to learn), it definitely sounded iZotope Trash-like to me, more than anything else. DEFINITELY not Soundtoys... Maybe some clever Guitar Rig? ...though I wouldn't want to put in the effort to get there, personally.
I've always felt like other Ohm plugins were more about the modulation than the sound, per se, so I'm sure that whatever option you choose, you'd need a ton of automation to give it that Ohm-ish edge.

why not download the demo of the plug in and check it out?Introspective wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 1:29 am

for me it's all these different types of + feedback and stuff that make it special.. along w/the movement possible in the different bands + noisegate. nothign comes alive like ohmicide.. especially on drum loops.

Interesting how not a single person in this thread so far has mentioned Output's Thermal. I think it sounds exceptional, and is probably the closest I've come to finding something that hits the same spot as Ohmicide.

Probably because of the price? Ohmicide wasn’t exactly cheap, either…
I didn’t try Thermal, I gave it a quick look but the distortion types look “simple” in comparison to some really exotic types avaible on Ohmicide.
Ohmicide also has a transient shaper for each band, which has a lot of impact on the final result…
Thermal looks like something that can go in the ballpark of Ohmicide, as Kombinat or maybe Trash… but nothing is really like Ohmicide, it has it’s very own character which you can’t find elsewhere.
By the way, it’s been ages since the last time I used it.

None of these can be considered replacements for omnicide, they don't sound anything like it, especially trash2 and fabfilter.
Personally I don't think any out there match omnicide. Most are good at either destroying sound or adding subtle analogue saturation.
If the gui is the only reason you don't like it then I suggest you get over it, many of us would like to use it but can't cause it crashes daws.

On Monterey and the Ohmicide demo installer refuses to open, says it needs to be updated. Checked system preferences to see if I can open it anyway but it just doesn't show up. Anyone on Monterey able to get the demo to install?
