ive had a bit of a move, so now i need to add "some longer cables" it never ends!!!!!

its either, longer instrument cables and move a little bit more of the modular around, might look better...
or longer patch cables, but then ill need loads, and it might not look as tidy.

either way, measure shit before you move stuff, im not moving it back now and wasting my time

Manufacturers really should come up with some way to make all new gear wireless. Sure, you might still have a modular synth with plenty of patch cables, but it would have a wireless transceiver module in it that could communicate audio, MIDI, and control voltages to and from your gear across the room, or even down the hall in another room. If you have a polysynth, it would likewise have an internal transceiver to communicate with the rest of your gear. The same goes for your mixers, amplifiers, computer interfaces, etc. As for inexpensive guitar pedals, those wouldn't be financially practical to make wireless, but you could still have a single wireless transceiver for an entire pedalboard. For all your older gear, they could provide wireless transceivers as external add-on devices. The only remaining wires in our studios should be some power cables.

There also needs to be a universal standard for all this wireless technology. We want ALL our gear to be able communicate, no matter what brand it is. It also needs to be as inexpensive as possible, and the tech standards should be open sourced.

This is the type of gear I WISH I could get in 2022!

Just updated Wavestate to v2.0.1 so it's technically a new synth
PITA though. Had to upgrade it twice to get to v2. First have to upgrade to v1.6 to get the new midi/USB format, then upgrade to v2. Korg give very good detailed instructions though...I got it wrong first time cos I was so bloody eager and forgot how to read English properly. user error, not Korg's fault...they even apologized in advance for the fiddly update.

Have to say it's a leap of faith though...never upgraded OS on a hw synth before. Basically they ask you:
"do you want to erase absolutely everything on this synth and hope we got it right when we rewrite everything you just spent $1000 on?"

My yes finger hovered for quite a while.

Had a proper play with my Opsix yesterday(also upgraded to v2). Wow that thing can make some nasty noises! (and some surprisingly lush ones too.)

Some noises can be so grating even I had to stop and give my ears a rest, and that's with no added distortion fx too.

The author is the same seller… I would love to be able to print one of these out instead of buying (but I’m guessing it’d be more expensive to own the printer, and then there’s the unwritten price of upset looks from the missus).

I just had some fader caps printed through treatstock.com, where you can submit STL files (and set things like scale, infill etc.) and get quotes on having someone else 3D-print them in various materials/colors. It's cost me about $8 with shipping to get 16 fader caps printed.

A lot of local public libraries also have 3D printers.

I’m probably going to get a Waldorf M in May. Christmas was light this year, but things are looking promising. I’ll probably part with my Peak to make room… but I’m not entirely sure. I’m still sorting it out.

Last year I picked up a bunch of plugins and got a Chase Bliss MOOD for Christmas. Fun stuff.

Gotta say some of those modular things have seriously fugly controls. It's like they deliberately try to make them obscure. I can figure out most of those controls (though they look chaotic to me) but WTF is that hammer supposed to do under the VCF dial? The one on the left is VCF env I assume, but a hammer? What, it flattens the envelope? It's a punch type envelope shortener? It's a transient shaper type thingy or a transient squasher? It just makes a splat sound?

^^^ The two small knobs are attenuaters for modifiers to the larger VCF Cut-Off knob they are linked to visually, yes.
