2021: A Year in Gear (What You've Bought or Want to Buy in 2021)

I have a four tier Jaspers stand I really like, but the extra accessories aren't cheap - coming in around £30+ just for an extra short pair of support arms.
I noticed on Bax that they have a range called Innox that seems a cheaper version of the Jaspers gear, but for a few bits of kit that are quite light like my TD-3 would probably be good enough, just not sure if the arms are compatible.

Anyone know if the Innox arms like these that cost about a quarter of the price...

My guess is that they're too narrow as the tubes look thin in the photo, but not sure just how adjustable the bracket on each arm is?

i saw some the other say somewhere that were universal, decent sized g clamps with a tray with a lip for a shelf.

i think they popped up on amazon?
looked at so many stands recently i can't quite remember specifics??

I got the Fuzzrocious Lunareclipse, it's pretty neat. Remind's me somewhat of Cytomic the scream plugin with all the different diodes in it. It sounds awesome. Great stuff...

It’s an interesting device. It’s basically Plaits as a stand-alone synth with obviously quite a few features to expand on the module. It has a decent analog filter built in too.

The nice thing for me is that I don’t enjoy the module as much, so I plan on getting some Hp back. I don’t know what will take it’s place yet, but it’s fun to have options at this point (after a having used the current setup for a short while).

Nice Multi-Pedal and decent price. I’m gonna listen to demos but it’s very unassuming what it does.

put it up last night after finishing rewiring my studio after a little move and tidy
needed to make some noise to feel my time in the room had been worth it

Hmm, to me Microfreak has a very different vibe from Plaits. I think the different context, ability to go paraphonic or unison, and the filter set it apart.

I do feel like Arturia dropped the ball by not actually consulting with Emilie Gillet (especially about things like parameter ranges) and they probably should have omitted or heavily modified a couple of the algorithms that don't quite suit the synth.

To be fair: I never had both at the same time. I had a Plaits during its beta test, thought it was pretty great especially for a small Eurorack setup and a good companion to Rings... but I don't have a small Eurorack setup, I have a lot of other oscillators competing for space. I got Microfreak a good while after that.

I can compare the Noise Engineering algos for Microfreak to Virt Vereor, though. They match pretty well, except for Harm Spread being a bit different and SawX Shape being completely different (I prefer the VV version). Of course VV is a bit limited until you start messing with host automation, while modulation assignments in Microfreak are pretty easy.

Anyway, the filter adds some nice possibilities. I like the resonance character it has.

I think we might mean the same things. I’m just saying it’s core sound is pretty much Plaits. From there it deviates, as you mention 4 voice polyphony via paraphonic mode, modulation matrix, filter, arp/sequencers and more.

I’ve got the Plaits module and an almost Plaits in Beebo (and I like the Beebo version better than Plaits because it’s easier to access via the touch screen).

Using Beebo is what led me to buying Plaits, but once I had it, I didn’t enjoy it in the module format. To me a stand-alone synth is the best form. An even better version would be a merge of the Beebo’s touchscreen with all the same features of Microfreak.

Not physical gear per-say, but for my Prologue, I got 'Time' from Sinevibes that acts as a looper with a 6 second time.
Loopers are FUN! spent several hours already playing with it doing slides and warps.

I bought myself one of these little babies for Xmas -

It's a Yamaha SHS-500.I thought that if I am going to get serious about doing my 80s covers thing, and I've decided that I want to, I really needed a keytar to make it more authentic. Fukk me they're expensive!!! The Korg and Roland things are both more than a grand. Alesis Vortex is a bit cheaper but I really like the size and look/design of this one. I got it at a decent price from eBay - it had been advertised for a few weeks and the guy accepted a cheeky offer.

It's got a built-in sound engine with 32 preset sounds and effects. You can't really do much with the preset sounds but you can play around a bit with the effects. It's designed for jamming along with your favourite songs - it does chord detection stuff with software app - but I will just be using it as a simple MIDI controller. It's got the same 3 octave mini-keybed you get with the ReFace synths, so it's not bad and you can set velocity sensitivity and stuff on the fly.

It came with a soft case that's got a shoulder strap, so I can carry it around like a samurai sword if I want to (and why wouldn't I want to?). All-in-all, it's kinda cool.

...nice. I know the Behringer SH-101 clone comes with a keytar attachment, but apparently the keyboard isn't great.

Without my glasses on, I only saw the shape and colours, and thought "whoa, Nord has made a keytar?!". Pretty cool lookin', that.
