New plugin scanning behaviour now with standalone Wotja. It no longer tries to scan my plugins on startup but when I manually scan it gets as far as Waves and then crashes. Note that the available plugins list is empty (presumably because of the crash).

See video here (note the mouse cursor changes to the Waves icon while it is scanning them although the message at the top shows the last scanned as Wurli V2) -->

check the math in the "Phrase Gaps Range" section:

This value defines the upper limit to the number of rests that your Generator will compose in sequence. For example, if the Phrase Gaps is 3, and the Phrase Gaps Range is 25, then the minimum phrase will be 3 rests, and the maximum phrase length will be (3+25) = 30 rests.

More testing this morning and the plugin seems to be less laggy today with Cakewalk and Wotja UI open (scratches head). Not sure why it's behaving differently today with Wotja UI open. You will see that the current position cursor is more jerky with the UI open but it's nowhere near as bad as it was yesterday and I haven't updated anything (latest Cakewalk bB 2012.12 bld 102). This is using the Play Me 22 mix with MIDI from Wotja feeding Cherry DCO-102.

Here's Cakewalk behaviour now (I'd call this acceptable):

I'll post videos of other DAWs when I have recorded them.

Thank you! I've let Tim know.

Phew. A weird one!

So, I just got Surge and Soundspot Union, and both scanned just fine under the debugger. More head-scratching to come :)

Weird! I will test them when I have moved the ones that crash for me out of the way temporarily (see results below).

I just tried Studio One 5 Pro again (latest build 5.4.1.66992 same as yesterday) and not only does it work but it also tempo syncs and transport works fine with the Wotja UI closed. With the UI open the Studio One screen doesn't update and it takes a few presses on the close window button to close the Wotja UI (in the video I click on it around 6 to 7 times before clicking away to get rid of it).

See here -->

So having quickly tried all of my other DAWs my only remaining issues for the Wotja 22 Pro VST plugin are:
  • DAW UI doesn't update or updates are jerky when Wotja UI open.
  • Tempo/transport sync does not happen on Mixcraft Pro (now works on all other DAWs after testing again today).
  • MIDI routing from Wotja to other VSTis not working for Studio One and Cubase (tested and working for Scaler 2).
EDIT: Forgot this one - thanks for reminder @JamminFool
  • When quitting Wotja the prompt to save is hidden behind the Wotja window

I have (tried) to play around with it last night and must have to say for now (with Mixcraft Pro):

- Generative with VST: YES (even if still buggy with scan not working and GUI freezing, but useable)
- Generative DAW: NO (withouth transport bar working.....).

So I am glad the Midi recording still works and use the recorded midi in my daw till all these problems are fixed/getting better. I have to say it is still an advantage that you can try out some vst (and as I use Unify as host inside the host save the rack and then re-use in daw) inside Wotja 22, get a "raw" imagination of a VST-Combination and then adjust in the daw.

One more recording audio problem which still exist (was there before in 20/21) and keeps me from using it as daw: still crackles/noises when (automatically) changing cells in the recorded output no matter what I do (I have tried a lot with volume fading and so on, does not help in the end, when one cell changes it just produces this crackles/noises like you hit a microphone even if drums and ongoing athmo is in the background). Only way to avoid maybe would be to use only one column but this has the disadvantage that all cells will play all the time so no solution either.

OK, something for me to think about there :)

That's kind of puzzling, and sounds like it might actually be bugs specific to those DAWs?

In that, Wotja works the same whatever the DAW is.

Head-scratcher.

I temporarily moved the Waveshells and Harmony Engine VST3s from my VST3 folder so that I could check for any other plugin issues. I also installed Soundspot Union (I own it but didn't have it installed) and Surge.

These are the other crashes I got:
  • Soundspot Union (v1.0.3 the latest from my PB account).
  • Antares AutoTune EFX (same "Out of place engine initialization failed" error as Harmony Engine).
  • Mastering the Mix Animate.
  • Amplitube 4.
Surge scanned ok. Note that Amplitube 5 scanned ok.

I could happily live without Soundspot Union, Animate and Amplitube 4 but I use Antares AutoTune EFX a lot!

With plugins that caused crashes temporarily moved from my VST3 folder the scan completed OK (over 1000 VST3 plugins) :tu:

I think that's OK and presumably Wotja won't rescan unless I do it manually. So I could move the Waves and Antares plugins back to the VST3 folder and Wotja should be ok as long as I don't rescan.

using the app in Windows 11, i have noticed that the app seems to lock up on occasion. It usually seems to occur around my trying to close a mix tab after I have been editing or playing it. However:

1) I finally discovered that if I left-click the icon for the app in the task bar, it "wakes up" and presents the dialog asking me if I want to close without saving. something is really weird with that, but not sure how to reliably trigger it.

2) I also noticed that it will sometimes keep playing music even after I have deleted all the generators and have pressed the "stop" button. again, not sure what is triggering that, since it does not always happen.

note that both of these scenarios are a result of edge testing (unexpected workflow) since I do not know what I am doing and am simply exploring the highly unusual UI in order to discover things. So I guess it works fine for those who understand it, but is not well tested for those who do not know how it is "supposed" to work. So doing things "out of order" or outside the expected workflow can easily break it.

I’ve just heard from the Waves QA manager - so that is promising. I've given him a lot of info.

If anybody out there wants to contact Waves with problems, now would be the time to do it, I think!

Just to say a big *thank you* from Tim and me - you are being *so* helpful, it is really appreciated!

I actually bought Soundspot Union this morning just to test, and ... it works fine for me!! Go figure, eh?

Is Antares AutoTune available as a demo of some sort? I'm very happy to try it out of course!!

Best wishes,
