Frank (Analog Obsession) is one I use a lot for broad quick strokes, in that it's got both hi and lo shelf/pass that you can also "attenuate" (I don't know if it's standard attenuation by the looks of it - but it's nice), along with about a 1.5/2K boost or lower with a wide bell. Nice and simple.
TreQ mentioned in list above: Another quick grab, easy-on-your-eyes UI, to dial in a specific Hz within the three bands and work with, also with a more broad bell, along with lo and hi pass.
For more precise e.q.ing, as you can adjust the bells and it has a deeper lo/hi pass, I use SSQ.
But, man, I could on about so many of AO's plugins. I do like Kolin, but VariMoon has quickly become one of my favorite compressors.
(apologies if this is considered highjacking the thread - the NEED stuff looks nice! The trouble with channel strips/e.q./compressors - more so than instruments, is that many of them just look so darn nice and realistic, and part of our pleasure is, unfortunately, aesthetics, as we like to look at nice things while we work. If I didn't have a grip on things, I'd have over a dozen channel strips.)

I just had a play with these again after the holidays on the proper setup and whatever people has people excited on GS, i'm not hearing it at all. Every single one of the preamps sounds identical apart from the fact that some have more or less low end than others probably from the DC filtering or contribution from the transformer, but the clipping is the same and i would bet both my ears that they are just tahn waveshapers.....i don't even think some of them are that fancy in terms of functions and are just very crude waveshaping functions with very ineffective anti-aliasing
I'd really like if NoiseAsh was transparent about their approach to modelling that has gone on here cause it looks like to me, all they have done is matched the curves of the equalisers, and maybe emulated the colour of the circuit with an impulse response(there's some funky colouring of the linear sound that has no effect on the preamp making me think it's an IR both with real world inputs and test inputs)no effort has been made at all to make any of the preamps class A as they are all odd harmonics throughout the spectrum(same with Ruletec and the previous NEED). The function is actually 100% identical no matter the frequency or amplitude of the preamps, and no matter the preamp chosen. If they had access to the actual gear then how did they come to the conclusion that a bunch of Class A preamps produced just odd harmonics.......
I already know they took a similar approach with their Ruletec which some people were saying is better modelled than the Apogee and UAD versions( lol ) and the other NEED, it wouldn't surprise me to learn if their claims of modelling are being over exaggerated

I bought the UA Pultec, and got really excited, but quickly lost interest because Sparks is UA's very first attempt at making software that isn't tied to their Hardware . . . And they Still want you to buy their Thousand Dollar Pocket size Apollo Interface to insure that their Plugins run and sound properly . .
!?@y@?! . . . With Sparks, their Pultec loads slowly, and often asks you to Restart your DAW for them to reverie your License . . . !?@y@?! . . . Even if your Pultec has already been sitting in you project . . .
. . . So, I went shopping for a new Pultec emulation . . . Rule Tec is by far the Best that I found, and I even prefer its Sound over the UA Pultec . . . PA had the Rule Tec in a Flash Sale, and I an very happy with it.
. . . Then I demoed the Motone and the Need 84 . . . Blown away . . . ! . . . The Need 84 complimented my Lindell 80 to Perfection. . . ! . . . The entire Need Bundle is amazing, and very versatile. . . ! . . .
(-;
. . . Someone mentioned KIT Blackbird . . .
I am demoing their stuff as well . . . I Really Love their BB A5, and I will eventually pick that one up
. . . The BB A5 sounds great with my Need 84 . . .
It reminds me of how people use the Lindell 80 (Neve) with the Lindell 50 (API) . . .
. . . Yet The demo for the KIT BB Mo EQ never functioned on my computer, so I can't speak on that one . . . So, I am All In with these Amazing NoiseAsh plugins. . . I now have the Rule Tec Heritage Pro, the Motone Bundle, the Backs Bundle and the Need Bundle . . . All are Top Shelf . . . ! . . .
(-;
. . . Oh , and for the guy who is snooping around for Aliasing on Amazing Sounding Plugins . . . Do you fully wrap yourself in plastic before having sex, to avoid the exchange of bodily fluids . . . !?@y@?! . . . Because exchanging bodily fluids is essential for the Pro Creation and Preservation of Hue-Manity . . . !?@y@?! . . .! . . . Just saying . . . ! . . .

I haven’t experienced any of those problems with UAD. Those issues sound system/DAW specific.
If I wasn’t using UAD, it’d be using NoiseAsh. The NoiseAsh NEED and Rule-Tec are the closest to UAD that I have tried. They could definitely stand-in in a pinch. I prefer them now to Lindell Audio, IK, and of course Waves. But UAD still is #1.

I have. I think NoiseAsh holds up a bit better than Lindell 80 Series when strapped across an entire mix. Lindell Audio will start to sound a little more hollow as the track count builds up.
NoiseAsh will remain more present and solid as the tracks build, in a way that is comparable to UAD’s Neve 1073.
Also, a couple things soured me on Lindell Audio:
I discovered the 80 does not recall its settings correctly when moving a song from Mac to Windows or visa versa. This is an inherent structural flaw that can’t be fixed without breaking compatibility going forward on one platform or the other, because for some stupid reason LSR/Lindell developer Emmanuel Dubecq must have named the internal parameters differently on Mac and Windows. This is total amateur hour stuff. It makes the Lindell Audio 80 Series a no-go if you ever might need to work cross-platform or collaborate with others.
Also, (though not directly related to the 80), the 69 Series doesn’t have the infamous Helios Type 69 bass bump. Tobias Lindell says this is so it can be used on busses too, which sounds like a super weak excuse. If that was the case he could have just had a preference switch to turn off the bass bump. Or he could have excluded it just from the Buss version of the plugin, but not the Channel version. Its omission has shaken my confidence in Lindell’s commitment to accuracy.
