yes 0.69 % or a bit less , it s very little to meRoman Wisniak wrote: Wed Jan 05, 2022 11:19 pmAre you sure "C take(s) me 0.69%"? Maybe 0,0000069%?kobal wrote: Wed Jan 05, 2022 10:58 pm C take me 0.69% of cpu in reaper, not sure it report correct as i have maybe a 10 years old cpu and at 96Khz.
the hardware run at 96khz if i m right so i guess it may behave diffferently at 44.1 ( on filters and fm and saturation ,probably noticeable)
it sound like a cross between some reaktor ensemble and zebra but it has something else

the virusB gives me a constant 136 MIPS in the testconsole
(and 108+ are needed? )

Changing Ableton Live buffer from 64 samples to 128 samples makes a huge difference for my i7. I get a much more stable 6-7% CPU reported by Ableton with no glitches (single voice). And I can now play many patches in poly without glitches. Will try my work M1 Pro laptop at some point.

yes
i'm already at 256
switched to 1024 - no big difference
then back to 128 - also no big difference
it's always kind of the same
i get 3 to 6 voices of poly clean then suddenly it cracks down
a sudden cpu spike
now i also tried vst within reaper
that is vsti and vsti3
seems to be a little bit lighter
the reper display tells me 0.62% cpu idle
it stays so for about 3 voices poly
then goes up
with 5 voices it tells me 1.8%-2.7% cpu and begins with the cpu-overload-crackle
kind of the same with the AU version
i can get 16 voices poly in DIVA at devine quality
or full 32 voices in arturia pigments with theresonator remplate and all 3 engines engaged
not problems with those - no crackles

I tested today on an AMD 3950x and CPU usage was around 3% according to Reaper. Pretty decent.
So this is a Virus huh? Wasn't really my cup of tea to be totally honest but I still think this project is cool as sh*t. Once the version with fancy GUI is out, I'll give it a proper go and start programming my own sounds. I'll definitely be throwing some coffee money at the developers.

Everyone who claims their CPU usage is very low, should look in the operating systems task manager for the real CPU usage. The DAW CPU/Buffer readouts are wrong in this case. When 1 of the CPU cores hits maximum, audio interruptions occur and it happens very often here. This emulator is very CPU heavy. High polyphonic patches with a long release are pretty much unusable without bouncing to audio on my system (i7-4771) and that, with just one instance in single mode, with the Virus C.

Still CPU spikes with 6 voices ,Logic Pro 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7.This is not a cpu problem ,this is bad coding.
The old MO chip is not that strong so it needs to work it out why this happen.

Works wonderfully for me. The rounded GUI is very helpful. Only the arpeggiator does not run synchronously with the DAW, does anyone have a tip on how to change this? Thank you.

Looks like the Nord Modular has multiple DSP's, which, as far as I understood it, is not supported by the emulator yet.

When the emulator one day should support multiple DSP's, then a Supernova would be obvious as well.DSPs: The Nord Modular has 4 (expandable to 8 ) Motorola 56303 DSPs.

You are 100% correct, the spikes are there because the DSP is running in a high priority backgroud thread. If the DSP is fast enough, the DAW will report a very low CPU consumption, even though this is not really true. If the DSP is too slow, it will report 100% instantlyanoise wrote: Thu Jan 06, 2022 8:09 am Everyone who claims their CPU usage is very low, should look in the operating systems task manager for the real CPU usage. This is something that occurred in the hardware also and something we will try to counteract in a future updatemaximoog wrote: Thu Jan 06, 2022 10:44 am Works wonderfully for me. Ok I will bite on this comment after knowing how much work has gone into the project, you would be very shocked knowing who we actually have working on this behind the scenes, we arent a team of amatuers put it that way. Oh wait and its absolutley free
If you could let me know which lines of code you have identified to be bad then please enlighten me?
Also you are welcome to help improve the performance here:

I believe the cpu problems are coming because you coding this on the latest chips you can get right now?
Also the reverb sounds strange on many presets.
I don't want to hurt anybody when I say it's bad coding but it is how it is.
Look at the Virus Powercore code there you find the answer how and why it plays 16 and more voices in one core.Maybe it is the 96 kHz that needs to be fixed.
I will donate after I can play Pads on my Mac Book Pro 2015!
