Half the answers are synths that aren't even an emulation of analog.

If I could only have one analog emulation, it would be RePro... with Diva being a close second.

That's because the OP wasn't clearly in what he was asking.

If he was asking for an analog modelled soft synth, then my answer would be Super 8. A bit limited, but, all the analog modelled stuff is really.

Interesting topic, few times i was on buy button of discounted 'analog' synths and everytime end up using Synth1 instead.
It just has that hardware character i want.
Also like viking synth, but can't say it's superb analog or something, just like it as free synth.
I wrote few times in different topics, that to me this 'analog' sound is easy to be achieved with sound design tricks and basically every modern advanced digital synth could simulate analog temper using mod matrix complexity.
So my point is better use vst synth you like and learn how to make it more analogish or find presets with such vibe.
From what you describe you don't need old school analog, but more like more modern hybrid analog.
I had like 3000-4000 presets with such vibe for both Synthmasters and few soundbanks for Synth1:

Not that it actually matters, but this thread is a clear indication that a lot of people have no idea what analog character actually is.

Maybe you should get acquainted. It’s not like it’s 2005 when analog synth manufacturing was fairly rare and everything was pretty expensive. It’s not like most of your choices have to be vintage collectors items. There are plenty of sub $500 choices. Hell, the Monotron Duo starts at $70. Go figure out which one sounds best to you and buy one.

Yeah, I mean logically you have to say Diva purely for the range. I do think Repro and Legend slightly one-up it in convincing analog sound though.

Agree, never played hardware analog synth, just like warm sound and nonlinearity i hear :)
Could you explain it,please, what gives d analog synths their analog character?

Diva.
It's versatile. It sounds good. Maybe not on par with the newest analogue emulations, but it still sounds good enough to use in music tracks without any feeling of shame (that it's not analogue enough') ;)

For a rompler, I would choose Omnisphere, which has so many HQ waveforms from different analogue synths and it has quite warm (aka not harsh) sounds.

ZebraHZ. Plenty of power and Diva filters.

Diva! Great set of init models of analog classics and it's extremely versatile and sounds amazing.
