I’m sure I’ve said it before… PG-8X is one of the best sounding Plug-ins I have on my MBPro!
I would be extremely sad if it wouldn’t make its way onto my M1 MainStage Rig…

I’m sure many of us would be happy to donate if you decide to continue the project! :)
My hope is that it will be made native for Apple Silicon, some better way to integrate the default / user patches; and most importantly: fix crashes when learning MIDI - am I the only one who has this issue?
Everything else is perfect, UI and sound!!

Had a lot of fun playing the “Final Countdown” Album by Europe, which uses TONS of JX-8P … would love to use it in my M1 live rig! :)

Yeah I'm very, very bummed to hear this plugin is likely dead / will never make it to M1.... that would be terrible. I use it all the time and already have one m1 based system. PG-8x is just as good or better than many paid synths out there. I have created banks for it that I come back to again and again.....really hope there is some way we can help to keep it alive!

Well, Rosetta should be fine for a couple of years hopefully...

No reason for your concern, Martin. As was said, a few devs out there modeling Roland legacy synths. No big deal.

Besides, Roland abandoned ACB modeling and switched to rubbish sample-based Zenology platform.

PG-8X shall live and blossom.

Actually, with my M1 I can't load any non-native plug-ins in native mode in MainStage (which seemingly some DAWs can)
Only way to use it, is to switch MainStage (or Logic for that matter) to Rosetta Mode, which dips my performance to levels of my old MacBook Pro... :scared:
(And yes, my M1 MBAir, as soon as MainStage is properly supported without major crashes, will replace my MBPro15/2016 as my main Music machine :hihi: )

Anyways, my brand-new JX-08 module will be delivered on Monday, really pumped to hear how it sounds and about the hardware build quality.
This will be my first hardware (synth-only) "analog" synth joining my digital DX7 IIFD

Now that sounds just like the thing Apple would do, doesn't it? :?

Can you use some sort of plugin wrapper that works in native?

martin_l wrote: Fri Jul 30, 2021 5:32 pm I hope that after the summer, I will finally find the time to transition the project to open source, so that others can jump in and work on MAC ports, and M1 support.
EvilDragon wrote: Fri Jul 30, 2021 6:37 pm SST will welcome you with open arms, Martin. You know that! :)
How is that actually coming along, now that Surge Synth Team has also Monique to care about?

Post

It didn't happen yet, unfortunately. Martin didn't yet decide in what way to open the source code, licensing-wise and so on.

(Also Monique dev joined SST and will continue maintaining that particular neck of the woods.)

Could a wrapper like DDMF Metaplugin provide M1 compatibility?

Anybody know the trick to get Studio One (v5) to actually see the PG-8X vst? It doesn't show up in Studio One's plugin list (but it's definitely there, my other DAWs load it just fine)....Tried rescanning, but to no avail, it's like PG-8X is just invisible to Studio One's plugin scanner, but I have no idea why.

It's not about what they would do, it's about AU's being updated or not. Their software to translate to Rosetta specifically works with AU, and only the latest specs. Nothing about it is that weird or Apple like.

Personally I would't also be surprised if they blocked native Mainstage from loading Rosetta plug ins for the simple reason that Mainstage is designed for live performance, and we all know some guy would play live with some badly coded Rosetta plug in that didn't work out well and go on a rampage about it. That's pretty Apple like, and IMO hard to knock reasoning.
