Your favorite "versatile analog-modelled/emulation" synth plugin?

AAS Ultra-Analog VA2 or 3 for its sound and the right genetics for pretty eerie atonal soundscapes and great FX or Synth1 for something more universal (bass, pads) but like another virtual analog favorite of mine the Korg Monopoly it's less capable in the atonal and FX departments then that AAS synth.
For everything else I usually grab one of the super-synths or build something in Bitwig anyway.

Plugin instruments by their very nature are purely digital, not analog. So do you mean the plugin emulations of real analog hardware synths?LoveEnigma18 wrote: Thu Jan 06, 2022 7:34 am With so many analog synths instrument plugins around, I wonder what is the only synth (vintage or not) that is most versatile/general and useful to have in your arsenal for music production. One that you could use for all purposes.
Most versatile/general all purpose synth (vintage or not) is yet another thing. You probably need to rethink your question or present them as clearly separate ones.
What is a typical synth point of view? What you really seem to be saying is, I don't have any experience of real analog synths and was wondering which of their plugin emulations are the most versatile?LoveEnigma18 wrote: Thu Jan 06, 2022 7:34 am I am not familiar with their hardware counterparts, so it would be useful for me to know this. Of course, there are many special synths or sampler type plugins that do specific sounds, but I am asking from a typical synth point of view.
By the very nature of this question, it is about comparing the specs and features of different synths. And especially if talking about analog emulations, same popular synths have been emulated by many companies, but somewhat different ways. And it gets harder if you are not after a real emulation, but just a versatile synth with "analog" character/sound, whatever that is.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Thu Jan 06, 2022 7:34 am Note: This is NOT about comparing plugins between plugin companies.
To me, guessing what you asked for, u-he Diva is a good example of a versatile synth which emulates several different circuits from the analog world. However, it's not necessarily the best option at any single emulation.

It would be a toss-up between my Prophet Rev2 editor plugin, and my Sub37 editor plugin
But, seriously, it would probably be Obsession and not solely because of its sound and because it's an analog emulation, but more because I just like that synth a lot in terms of use. DIVA would be another obvious choice, just based on its massive range.

All my plugins are completely digital
While I like subtractive synths, I don't really care about authentic analog sound. I think many of us like the sound of old analog synths more for the great classic songs they were used on rather then for the sound as such.

I think a lot of people that use synth plugins these days have never owned an analog synth, so they can't really compare.

so much inexperience. This is what happens when you believe newborns know the path. The young always think they have it figured out... until life kicks the life out of them.
First... the difference between an analog hardware synth and a hardware digital synth is sound. a hardware synth is not built for options. It's built to sound good. That is the difference. a real analog synth has a beautiful sound, not options. It's built to specific specifications, and guess what? it sounds different very time you turn it on. It never sounds the same. Now, you can go on with your baby newb clown posts and saying digital sounds musical too... I was there at the beginning of waldorf. I get it. Digital is more objective than a strait analog. I like digital, and the digital sound. i grew up on it. But, analog is built to specifications to make it sound as good as possible because of the parts it is expensively built with. It's a musical instrument. a digital synth is for a different ear, that I appreciate. I do not like when you try to confine, and hold back digital, to your lower specifications so you can get likes. Super saws are tedious as f**k... because you over sexualized it. Because, that's all you know.

Well, originally analog synths were not built to sound good, analog tech was basically all there was. And it sounded the way it had to sound. Synth sounds were kind of new back then, so manufacturers didn't have to compare and think, how can I make my synth sound better? I think they did focus on features early on, and the way analog components work automatically lead to the typical analog sound, which many of us have come to appreciate for various reasons.

It would be a toss up between SynthMaster 2 or ANA 2...

moog was competing as the best sounding synth at the exhibitions and won, and ana 2 and synthmaster might be a toss, I use synthmaster, it was first, and the hard filter i like. ana 2 has a great sounding set of filters tho. if i dug into ana it would be for the filters.

Falcon by UVI because once you learn it you can make about anything you need. Push comes to shove that I am crazy, Diva.
