I’m producing on headphones. Using the iPad and MacBook Air, sometimes with a Zoom U24. Never cared much about mixing but now my setup is “complete” I would like to investigate that further. Currently I have a Sony WH-H900n and am in doubt. After comparing certain headphone models, the frequency range of the WH-H900n seems pretty large against others. Do I look for another headphone OR would/could I benefit from correction software like Sonarworks SoundID?
I’m running a trial version of SoundID and with the presets for the WH-H900n it delivers a punchier low and more sparkling high. I also (separately) ran Soundsource and loaded the EQ profiles for the WH-H900n. To be honest, those from SonarWorks sound better to me. Toneboosters Morphit doesn’t has a profile for the WH-H900n.
So in short a few questions:
- Headphone good enough, solve/enhance by software or not?
- SoundID or SoundSource? or maybe both and why?
- Could I benefit from Canopener?
- Other suggestions are welcome too….

Maybe Dear VR-mix but it doesn't have profile for your WH-H900n either. Looks like it combines eq curves with ambience to simulate a mix room.

A very interesting option is the Philips SHP9500 because it costs $75.
It is very neutral and one of the most comfortable and the softs have profile for it.
