I'd prefer "Nobody's Diary" over "Don't Go", but maybe it's that popularity thing again you were talking about regarding Depeche Mode. What about Anne Clark? "Leaving" if you ask me, but you can't go wrong with "Our Darkness" or "Sleeper in Metropolis" either. And for the last weeks I'm having a hard time getting Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" out of my head. It seems to be wherever I go...
I'm surprised I can't see Icehouse anywhere, btw.

I'm not sure I have ever heard anything by Anne Clark. I've heard her name enough but never been interested in checking her music out. Listening to Our Darkness, though, it would be more of a candidate for a NOVAkILL cover, I think. And listening to Nobody's Diary now, I'm pretty sure I've never heard that before, either. If I was going to consider a different Yazoo song, it would be Only You.

Liberator by SoD always went down well in the clubs when I was nobbut lad

edit: liking the list though :tu:

I just listened to that song and it made me remember why I never liked SoD - saxophone. I really hate sax in rock music. It just doesn't work. His voice also sounds like a parody of Virgin Prunes' Gavin Friday in that song. Elsewhere he's like a really bad imitation of Richard Jobson from Skids. Overall, he's just terrible. Also, there are no MIDI files to work from. I do like their overall big drums and prominent bass sound, though.

Even Tainted Love, when you listen to the lyrics, is quite dark. But yeah, Sex Dwarf would be way better, except no-one would recognise it over here. I'm also constrained by my laziness and I can't find a MIDI file for Sex Dwarf.

I will do some vox for Once In A Lifetime for you, though. Eventually. But if I was going to do a more alternative set, it might look something like this -

Planet Claire (B-52s)
A Forest (The Cure)
Israel (Siouxsie & the Banshees)
The Big Heat (Stan Ridgway)
Safety Dance Men Without Hats)
Being Boiled (Human League)
Blockhead (Devo)
P-Machinery (Propaganda)
Fade to Grey (Visage)
To Cut A Long Story Short (Spandau Ballet)
Underneath The Radar (Underworld)
I Hear Motion (Models)
I Travel (Simple Minds)
Underpass (John Foxx)
Love My Way (Psychedelic Furs)
Mexican Radio (Wall of Voodoo)
We Are Glass (Gary Numan)
Chosen Time (New Order)
All Stood Still (Ultravox)
Holiday in Cambodia (Dead Kennedys)
Blitzkrieg Bop (Ramones)

Whip It! (Devo)
Grip (The Stranglers)
The Wait (Killing Joke)

But this set would have to be for a Goth club or something. Some of them will end up as NOVAkILL covers, as we are planning a series of EPs, each with two re-worked versions of old songs and two covers. And just to prove I can do full-on guitar music, I've added the Ramones classic Blitzkieg Bop to the SoundCloud page.
Hey Bones! To honest as I got know you here on Kvr I always pictured you doing cover stuff from Midnight Oil.. beds are burning, Sigue Sigue Sputnik especially Massive Retaliation and and Billy Idol stuff.. what about more modern synth renditions of Adam and the Ants or Young Turks of Rod Steward? Just my two cents. .. I also wanted to do covers of certain songs in a more lighter sythwavy kinda fashion but I feel a bit more conflicted about it due to various reasons

I was not sure if I should suggest Only You (well, I discovered it quite late because the first version I heard was the Flying Pickets cover, which I liked much), but, yeah, give it a go!

Be sure to check out Fad Gadget (Back To Nature, Ricky's Hand, Collapsing New People), too.

yeah i can definitely hear you doing some fad gadget, not the same but has that punk vibe that soft cell has.

the other lists are all good tunes too, i guess it does just depend on the audience.

Midnight Oil had completely lost the plot by Beds Are Burning. I'm much more a Bus To Bondi kinda guy. We used to go and see them before they were famous at their local pub on the Northern Beaches. Sometimes the band that became INXS supported them but we always tried to boo those wankers off the stage.

I thought about doing some Billy Idol but, ultimately, realised that I've got enough stuff without it. e.g. I've got three Human League covers done - Being Boiled, Empire State Human and Love Action. The latter is the only one I'd consider for this project but we might do Being Boiled for NOVAkILL. Same sort of thing with The Cure, I've got several covers done - All Cats Are Grey, Let's Go to Bed, The Walk, One Hundred Years and A Forest - but the only one likely to see the light of day is One Hundred Years, which we'd do as NOVAkILL. Honestly, when I look at how many of these I've done over the last 15 months, it scares me a bit that I could find the time but it's something I've thoroughly enjoyed doing.

Ricky's Hand is the only MIDI file I could find for Fad Gadget and it was basically unusable. It's an easy enough song to work out but if I was going to do anything, it would probably be Ideal World or Collapsing New People from Gag, or maybe something from Snakes & Ladders.

We've just about got the NOVAkILL EP done so I should have a bit of time over the weekend to put a few more WiPs up. The EP, as I may have previously mentioned, has two covers on it - Simple Minds' I Travel and John Foxx's Underpass. They were two of the earliest covers I did at the end of 2020 but they ended up going a bit further than the others.
