That's interesting, Foosnark. Retaining the drummer's groove should be an OPTION, in my opinion... NOT a requirement, and not something that's out of reach. You should have the power to utilise as much of it, or as little of it as needed. Consider, if you will, that most good music DEPENDS on the groove... Suddenly you hear music in a whole new way.

I love cutting halfway into cymbol decays and stuff, too - I often go into techno-geek-mode when it comes to laying down my beats. Not always, but often. But I would still protest that killing the groove completely won't help bring energy and liveliness to the track's entire being. No groove can sound dull and doesn't tend capture the attention so well.

Still - I've done Hardcore Gabber and bits, which are totally grooveless, and that's just what's right in THAT situation. It really does depend on the music. I hope my guide gives off the message that there really is no set of rules to be strictly adhered to. If it sounds good - keep it! :wink:
