(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

That was the first answer 15 years later.wikter wrote: Wed Jan 05, 2022 12:05 pm Maybe a little forgotten, but this sampler had all the same quality other products from DiscoDSP had. good filters & good FX.
Would you read it & stop digging?
I've found a thread about highlife open sourced.

It seems some players on this forum found that offensive.

I'm not upset in any way. I was just joking about how old the thread is. I was here when that thread was originally posted, and it occurred to me how unusual it is that I have a son who is driving that didn't exist when this thread was last posted in. Please take no offense to my comments--none were intended.wikter wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:13 pmThat was the first answer 15 years later.wikter wrote: Wed Jan 05, 2022 12:05 pm Maybe a little forgotten, but this sampler had all the same quality other products from DiscoDSP had. good filters & good FX.

A little history (probably available if you look for it):wikter wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:13 pmThat was the first answer 15 years later.wikter wrote: Wed Jan 05, 2022 12:05 pm Maybe a little forgotten, but this sampler had all the same quality other products from DiscoDSP had. good filters & good FX.

Arguru (R.I.P.) and George were business partners. The work relationship went sour, and Highlife became the object of contention. There was very bad blood between the two, and much of it was aired out here at KVR. Arguru open sourced Highlife rather than let George profit from it after their business break. Arguru totally coincidentally, died in a car crash a little while later. The source code was removed a while later--possibly rightfully). Bliss was reborn from the original design of Highlife. Today, we have Bliss, which is the spiritual (if not actual descendent) of Highlife. George had some rough patches with health and business for a while too. Now, things seem to have settled down and business is back as it should be.

Sorry, i've been a little rude.
Anyway, Oskari Tammelin took the code on DiscoDSP. Oskari & Arguru met some decades ago (back in 199x with Jeskola Buzz).
Both were great DSP programmers.
I'm sure Bliss has enhanced & updated Highlife, and yes, this thread was too old, but the fact was that I was searching a free soft to create SFZ files and I found that the old Highlife I had in my folder wasn´t working as expected, so I started a search to download an updated one, but oh... surprise, no binary available.
After some digging, i found this piece of software almost erased.
And just started a little fire.
Happy to see some activity here.

No worries.
A site that you'll likely find useful is:
https://sfzformat.com/
This is site is currently the ultimate repository of all knowledge on the subject of SFZ. If you find anything missing that shouldn't be, let them know. They'll add the info to the site. You'll find all known available SFZ players as well as samplers and tools for creating/editing SFZ files. Best of luck!

Highlife is a plugin, editor, resampler, etc... and the ability to export SFZ from almost any drumsynth in seconds is overwhelming.audiojunkie wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 11:45 pm No worries.![]()

Very cool!! Good job! There’s even a linux version!
I still suspect Bliss offers much more though. Has anyone made a quick comparison? I’m a Bliss owner myself. Maybe it can serve as a free taste of what Bliss can do.

Of course, Bliss is up to date. Highlife is a different flavour with different sounding core.

My google search for "discodsp bliss" listed this thread at the top of the results and even though the discussion is older than a teenage child I too am looking for a comparison between Highlife and Bliss? Or a reason why you love or hate Bliss?audiojunkie wrote: Sat Jan 15, 2022 1:37 am Very cool!! Good job! There’s even a linux version!

Bliss is the evolution of Highlife. The only reason I can imagine to buy Highlife over Bliss is price.phillo1 wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 8:10 pm My google search for "discodsp bliss" listed this thread at the top of the results and even though the discussion is older than a teenage child I too am looking for a comparison between Highlife and Bliss?
