VZX Visualizer

I've been looking for an app that can make Winamp/Milkdrop-Style visuals and doesn't require a PhD in software engineering and stumbled on this VZX. I have to say I'm pretty blown away, and the price is absolutely ridiculous (free for just the visualizer (but paid DLC) , currently $10 for the 'pro' version that allows you to make your own in a modular environment and host and display remotely):

FL Studio owners will groan and roll their eyes but I haven't seen anything else like this, much less at this price.

Indeed, didn't see that.
Just to anybody trying it out, it was a bit fussy getting it to run with jack and only worked about half the time, not sure if Jack or VZX is at fault. Easiest was to use WASAPI for VZX from the loopback audio of my audio interface and regular ASIO in bitwig.

This looks really interesting! With the 4 available DLCs, it comes to just $32, which is inside no-brainer territory, IMHO.
The only thing that's making me hesitate that it requires Steam. I don't have the hate for it that some people do, but I'd just as soon avoid it. I've logged in to their discord server, and it looks like a busy community, but it's my first time on Discord, and I don't see any place to gracefully find out whether there's an alternate way of buying and authenticating
VZX.

Just go ahead and ask in the VZX creative chat or so, the dev is super responsive, but I'm pretty sure there isn't another way. Steam does DRM, VAT and all that for you as a dev if I understand correctly and is a pretty powerful publishing Plattform for small devs that otherwise would have to run the whole thing themselves. It's kind of pointless to give steam their cut and then do it all yourself too.
But yeah, it's hoop to jump through if you don't have it already. I've had a Steam account since the HL2 days or so so it's a non issue for me.
