no- it's no more complex than an amplitude modulated bp filter
I did the modulation with an envelope on rms gate,
or with an envelope follower
-the difference in sound is subtle
it needs to rise from very low, below 500 hz
it can start from 20hz, seems to sound better that way
here is the free VSTfx I wrote to experiment with auto-wah==>

yeah wah sound is basically moving filter in 200-400 hz mostly, may go to 1000hz,but what i mean is that guitar tone is simple sinusoidal, but synths osc have way more complex harmonic content,so it's interesting to add some harmonics before wah pedal in the chain.
Wah is very resonant filter in lower freq spectrum when guitar tone sit well,it's similar to harmonics you can squeeze with finger techniques, just using filter resonance ...kind of,it's my idea of it,not technical explanation, music is feeling, there is tons of info www but feeling music is what makes music beautiful.
Probably there is math explanation about feelings too,but i don't want to know it
Cheers

agreed guitar waveform is sinusoidal with a strong harmonic at the octave,
so it's like a duplex sine, where there are 2 peaks before it crosses 0 again
wah just wants to be worked with feeling,
so I think the foot pedal is advantageous
like I say- gots to get me one of those cheap m-audio ones, so I can work itb
nothing like feeling the music u r playing- and the sounds from players in the groove

The Hellbabe looks interesting, more options and improvements the better, IMO. Price also.
