Step Sequencer grid style

Hey folks, I have a question for those who are experienced with sequencers...

I was playing around with Loomer's Architect the other day and noticed its grid sequencers have an interesting style... one that I personally have never come across:

What I was intrigued by is the fact that note length is a variable that can be altered "per step", rather than the usual "piano roll" style arrangement where if you want a note to be 1/8 you stretch it over 2 x 1/16. In other words, you could have a 16 step pattern that is more than 1 bar in length, while the grid remains fixed.

I'm more used to Roland/Korg step sequencers where each step is a fixed sub-division of the time sig, e.g. 16ths.

I'm just wondering is this a "thing"? Do other sequencers have this style of programming or is it peculiar to Architect?

Thanks for the link - that actually sounds pretty cool.
Generally, the idea is growing on me... it's a nice way to program possibly quite long and complex routines but visualize them in a compact space.

Yeah that’s a great way how loomer architect handles the step duration ,in combination with the repeat it is really powefull and you can get a groove going in no time .
I actually tried the exact same method by automating the overall pattern speed per step

And all of these have control inputs
What is bassically does under the hood is adjusting the pattern speed for each step , but it happens before the step .
The sequentix cirklon can also do this .
Loomer architect is one of the best pieces of software when it comes to sequencing and midi,I even made some sysex editors in it controlling my hardware

Yes , the cirklon
In step mode you have 4 aux inserts per step with hundreds of destinations , too deep to explain in a few sentences .
One of these is to change the global pattern speed , and since this can be set per step you can get the same results .
The cirklon is Amazing and so is architect
