editing presented melody

I look at a generated melody in Melodya and want to change 2 quarter notes to a single half note. so I move my mouse cursor to the spot and the section changes to something else. I move the cursor away and it changes back.
How do I change what I see before the cursor moves over it and it changes?
I know I can change it after I have dragged it to my DAW but why is it changing all the time?

Hi Simon,
The question is good. The motive changes because you see the motive rendered with melodic variations, but you can edit the original motive only. The motive with variations applied includes generated notes (that do not exist in the original motive) which cannot be edited because they are created by some algorithms on the fly.
If there is demand for it, a 'Render Motive With Variations' menu item could be added, just like you can render a phrase with variations in RapidComposer.
Thanks!
Attila

Hi Simon,
I added 'Render Motive With Variations' to the menu. I'll do my best to build Melodya soon, but please let me know if you need an update now (Windows or macOS?).
Of course the new menu item can also be found in the Melody Editor in RapidComposer...
Thanks,
Attila

Very, very glad that you added the "Render motive with variations" line to the menu!!! I have 1.3 and it's there. So many times with these generative softwares I find they are fantastic at suggesting but close to what I like, not definitive, and I just need to drag a note up or down, or delete another and that's it, perfect tune. We have the drag feature, but it is on the motive, so it's beautiful to render all those enchanting variations to the motive level. When 3 notes are alright and the following 3 are not, I split section at cursor and then launch generate at the section level (in the second section of course). But when the wrong note lies in the middle... Thanks!
A "lock note" feature could also be useful (a sort of always visible modifier key: when lighted, note_click_selection means lock in the next generation processes, so that it can be used on multiple notes), that would change the workflow and ease clicking the generations repeatedly. Then you switch off, render variations and do the little refinements manually. Generally an easy manual editing in the key area (as a midi editor) would be also welcome to finalize the melody.
By the way, I purchased at Xmas, and I am blown away. I already have infinite midi collections (ReMidi, Unison, freemidi.org), or constrained random generators (Audiomodern Riffer): I consider Melodya as a tool with musical rules inside (along with constrained random generators) and that's what I like because it brings me faster to musical results. I also dig that I have motive and rythm separated, that I can build patterns (e.g. A-B-C-B) and I am also learning to analyze existing melodies from this pattern approach; it has midi import (and export), immense scale database (I am fond of Indian, there's 50 ragas!). With these arms, I don't mind it's a little more complicated. Great job!

Ops! Sorry, I just discovered that I have manual midi editing functionality in the key area on the Motive: I can drag single notes horiz/vert, my mouse at right border becomes a pencil that can shorten/lengthen, right-mouse show a contextual menu with the "Remove selected note" option. The "Render motive with variations" added option gives these functionalities the value of very useful last-minute changes.
Please add the render to the user manual, and suggest to save as a new motive before rendering, since if you use the motive in other sections they would also change, which you may not want.
Cheers.
