Good explanations! I think it's more likely the last one, since both are big names, I think they will try to avoid using MIDIs straight out of a sample pack, which is generally frowned upon. As pointed by cantaloupe's video, it's likely that it's a very typical trance melody style (and possibly chord progression), and both artists happened to come up with similar stuff.

I never heard either of those tunes before but if you only played the melody to me I would have known right away it was from a trance tune. Trance is almost 30 years old, there is bound to be some overlap. Genre X wouldn't be Genre X if certain things didn't sound the same.
Amazing that the vid that cantaloupe posted is already 12 years old. Time flies.

Well, both tracks sound like the same generic Tarnce that has been churned out via presets for the last couple decades.
That 'arp' is about as simple as it could be.
It is extremely easy for me to believe that they 'stumbled' across the same chord progression and used the same simple af arp on top of it. Like, I bet we could find ten tracks with this.

That arp is probably extremely similar to several hundred of those paint-by-numbers trance identikits tunes. Same as psytrance - they're not necessarily plagiarising as such, but they all use exactly the same bassline. Occasionally you hear a different note, but for basslines the rhythm, the sound, the syncopation, the everything is the same. Actually I didn't think those 2 arps were identical, just very similar. But so is every other arp in every other trance track.
