For anyone who used the now-discontinued SFX Machine, what is the closest alternative plugin(s) that allows as much sound altering and mangeling?

And has anyone been able to authenticate SFX Machine on a mac with the last couple OSs? I have a code, it runs in demo mode in Ableton 10 but crashes when I try to authenticate.

2) It's been so long since I'd authorized SFX Machine I can't recall - I've migrated forward through two Intel MBPs onto an M1 MBP since buying SFX Machine and my authorization carried forward each time. I did find an old email exchange (circa 2014) with Earl were I had to update to the 64-bit version. Maybe it was v1.5.0... currently running v1.5.1 (the webpage and download link remain active.) Fired up Live 10 tonight and it's running/working here.

1) Man, there are so many choices - I kind of like Unfiltered Audio's Byome, but both SoundToys and Kilohearts have nice modular racks where you mix & match and I rather prefer the work flow. Here's a decent article to better inform you than I could do:

I've got 1.51 installed but yes, it doesn't appear to have been authenticated properly, and I remember having trouble with it.

I got because it I thought there was some magic to what the RT version was doing, then I got the PRO version, and realised it's actually a load of very simple dsp things routed in and around, so started building my own, 'better' things in plogue bidule.

I don't think there's anything which gives you 'that' kind of low-level-ness in a regular plugin interface, but you could definitely build something like it in Reaktor, MxxxCore (or Bidule). Or Max/MSP and run it in Live as M4L.
Multi-function things like BYOME and TRIAD, probably head in the direction too so might be worth looking at.

Having said that, have you tried the fixes they suggest on http://www.sfxmachine.com/pro/support.html ?

Hmm, maybe I can unearth a 10-15 year old mac and authorize, then copy it to my newer machines.

And thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. I downloaded Forester yesterday, which also seems like the kind of wackiness I'm looking for.

Otherwise Kilohearts all the way.

I do have SFX Machine. Before he closed up shop he had a "closing down" sale.

If I recall correctly he had a statement on his website that he was closing the business because Trump was elected?!?!

if a dev is going to discontinue selling a product, why not just unlock it for everyone to use? Sure, the people who purchased it are going to feel cheated, but at least folks can continue to use it. So weird to call it quits and then prevent anyone other than the owners from ever using it again.
Like, Ocean Swift went out of biz some months back and they made all of their plugins totally free for all to download and use...
