We just released the second sampleset of the Marching Band Horn (MBH). It is 158 MB in size and much more extensive than the first one who was only 19 MB.

It is available as a soundfont and in the Vsampler 3 format with the samples as wave files, that means they are ready to be used with any sampler or software that supports wave files. Your order will include both formats. It is on sale until January 2005.

You're welcomed to get the free 48 MB demo soundfont on our Free Sounds page:

And don't forget to read the full details on the Products Page.

I saw your post and noticed that were not any replies to say "thank you". No doubt it's been download hundreds of times. As a developer who sometimes gives things out for free and rarely gets even one or two thank yous I will say "thank you" for the group. It blows my mind at people that want stuff for free then download the mess out of it and don't even say one simple word.... "thanks"...

Ok, I'm stepping off my soapbox

Seriously guys we developers would give things out more often if we could a simple "thank you". All we want is a little acknowledgment and appreciation.

I'm probably pickier than most, as I play my own horns, but it seems that this free soundfont uses too many re-pitched/stretched samples to capture the lively variance that I like in brass sample sets.

So "thank you", but "no thank you". ;) I'd be more interested in playing with the horn used in the recordings! :D

This soundfont is not meant to perfectly emulate the real instrument as stated in the readme, and that's why it's not more expensive . But, IMHO it is great for adding an authentic horn flavor and also providing a wider range of uses.

Maybe one day I will release one that will be completely natural. And yes it's a great horn to play.

Thanks for making this available, but, to accomodate Mac users, can you make it a zip, gz, bz2, anything but exe file?

Victor.

Sorry, I had not tought of that. I'm uploading right now a zip file. Can Mac extract a regular rar archive, as the exe file was a self-extracting rar?

Yes, I believe regular rar is no problem. Stuffit Expander (standard with any system) handles it. According to their docs WinRar 3.0 and later is accepted.

Thanks!

Btw, sf2 is fine on a Mac; sfpack may not work.

I know sfpack does not work on Macs, that's why I'm using Winrar.

Thanks! I've been looking for something like this for awhile.

Having trouble completing the download...it gets about 90% done and stops...maybe I'll try it with FlashGet.
