Holy Surge, Batman. There's a coding window in the LFO! Please - I want to do a OSC with it.

I take into account that the month of Surge XT will be without options, most likely the next one :tu:

I don't know about anyone else, but voting can feel a bit overwhelming sometimes, particularly in a busy month like I think this one is. I didn't manage to comment on every track last time round and I feel bad about that. I was trying to figure out how it might be made slightly easier. Two things occurred to me.

This is probably the impossible one - find a way of being able to write comments on Soundcloud from the voting page. I'm sure that even if it is possible, it would be a huge amount of effort.

The other thing that might be more achievable was to allow people to start listening and compiling votes before the entries close. Maybe mid-month: as soon as one round closes, voting opens on the next one, and the entries fill up every so often. I don't know whether that would create an advantage for early entries or late ones - it could go either way I think - and if it creates extra work for Richard and BJ Porter, constantly updating stuff, then I wouldn't ask it of them. But having an earlier opportunity to vote and provide comments would be quite welcome from my point of view.

You can listen to the tracks, make comments, and take notes from the moment they are posted. It's not as convenient as having them collected into a voting page, but I don't think it's practical to make such an early voting collection. It's not just new submissions to contend with. Participants can and do occasionally revise or replace their entries during the month. Not only is that extra work for the person maintaining the early voting list, it could change how you evaluate the track.

I think two weeks is enough time to vote, even if there's 47 entries. I like to listen to everything and vote as I go, then go back and listen a second time if I have time. Commenting is nice, but don't feel bad if you can't comment on every entry! we understand! we all have lives!

What I do in this case, have the soundcloud and the osc pages open in two tabs. Always listen on soundcloud. You can already move the entry on the osc page while listening. If you are inclined to leave a comment you can do so any time while listening…

On the other hand, commenting is encouraged but not forced… Voting at all is more important…

Yes but that requires organisation and effort and this is me wondering if I can get the powers that be to pander to my entrenched laziness.

This is probably a me problem rather than an OSC problem tbh.

I admire your dedication! I think the commenting is more important than the prizes or the position in some ways. I make music for people to listen to really, so that’s a big reward in itself.

Yeah I usually do that too - maybe next time I’ll just listen and comment straight away and then skim to remind myself when the voting happens.

i agree ;)

If only commenting wasn't always so hard. I always struggle to come up with useful comments. If I were writing stream of consciousness, people would be rightfully offended and pissed off.

Post

Commenting can be hard. Hardest part of the voting process, maybe. But if the aim is to be constructive, it does facilitate attentive listening, as well as not being dismissive of tracks that do not happen to overlap with one's personal preferences. Which is a good thing imo.

Post

The important thing to note is that commenting is more important than position.

Nope, there is a dedicated voting page, where you need to make an account. You're login from KVR does not work.
