Ah crap, that's one synth I deinstalled because I really disliked it...

Post

Oh no ! Now you're missing out on all the wonderful modulation distortion and aliasing it has to offer :hihi: It has nice and flexible EGs, though. I like those.

Post

It has a convenient structure similar to the old NoiseMaker interface, but its sounds... I do not know, have to try to do something myself. So far it sounds like a super modulatable lo-fi synth)

Post

Coming from a "usability lab" it seems to me like a study which mistakes to avoid. I think I can find a better occupation this month. Like eating glass shards.

It sounds as if there's no oscillator interpolation whatsoever. Just raw waveforms.
And watch out for the master volume slider. It starts at maximum, rapidly causing distortion.

Yup, that one might need oversampling, but then it seems rather CPU hungry as it is already?!
Definitely don't use SAW without a bit of triangle up! :o
Then, why not have a click anywhere on those massive bars to expand/collapse? Weird.
Other than that, it seems like a very usable little synth at first goof. We've definitely had worse! :hihi:

I'm inclined to disagree. I mean Kuma 508 was bad, but at least a little quirky. This one is the Wurst.

Post

Clearly you don't remember Mantra Evo  ...but there were others I dislike so much, I can't even remember their names (denial). But give it a few days. Maybe I'll end up agreeing with you?! :hihi:

A few months ago, I settled on the title The Gross Dozen for this OSC numbering one gross and dozen. My one hope has been for a synth I can tease some kind of gross sounds out of. I only had a dozen or so minutes to play with it last night, but so far I'm finding the results surprisingly encouraging. (And no, I'm not just making a joke about it sounding bad.)

Well, let's get down to work and let's see what this synthesizer is capable of giving us :hyper:

Post

This one is gonna be my first OSC, let's see what we can do w/ this

Post

THIS IS YOUR FIRST? I'm sooooooooo sorry, hahahaha. I've been playing with this synth now for about an hour and.... I sort of stand corrected: It's really pretty bad. And this is me in a good mood! :hihi: :o

Yeah, I honestly don't think, who ever writes this knows anything about DSP processing and sort of wings it somehow. I remember my first time playing around with sound (119 years ago, give or take) and I went at it naively only to realize that sound is fickle and you have to overcome the flaw of raw digital signals with wise routines not only to avoid aliasing, but also to create proper tones and thereby proper saturation of frequencies among other things. This synth is like a first time sample playing exploration with first time filter experimenting, trying to think up resonance (or imagining what might be meant by that) and plucking some modulation options into it. I would give it a friendly "Great Job", now have a look at how one writes proper audio routines or consider exploring a bit more how this might work! Good start, though, really, great start. One day you may actually release one to the public and they'll love it! :tu: ...ahm, sorry, I got a little carried away there. :hihi:

I don't mind the GUI, really, if the rest was decent it would possibly be great, actually! Different, but nice and workable! Sound, however, nope! :uhuhuh:

Post

Well, we're all in the same boat at least! Will be interesting to see how people tame the beast :D
I've never heard of the synth. But I agree with FrogsInPants - I'm excited about some possible 'gross' sounds. That's just a matter of taste though.
This will be my second ever submission!
