Guitar Rig 6 alternative?

I think they made a mistake labelling it <Guitar> Rig. Personally, I think its a killer ecosystem for multiFX generally, especially with the LFOs and sequencers as components. It can do more moving and evolving FX than Molekular etc [very similar end results, with Resochord/reverb/delays/filters etc] it contains the full Raum/mod/Crush packs, excellent tempo delays etc. I have a TouchOSC template for the 16 macros and they’re so easy to set up. In fact, the instrument I use it least for is guitar. I’m a decent but slowish lead player and the cabs/amps do plenty well enough for me, though I’m not a tone expert.

If it were just effects though we have things out there now that do really nice multi-band processing with great effects complements and deep modulation capabilities, like Kilohearts Multipass and Unfiltered Audio TRIAD. If that's not for you, you can roll your own with any plugins you like (assuming compatibility, but I haven't had much trouble) using three products that I know of in DDMF Metaplugin, Bluecat Patchwork, and Plogue Bidule (I use Metaplugin, personally, and quite like it for doing multi-band stuff with custom VSTs). Its capabilities stand out more against other guitar focused products, IMO. Even if those strengths are not necessarily most concentrated in the guitar focused elements but more around them.
It was nuts having many of these capabilities as far back as 2006 with GR2 though, and I think it's to NI's credit that they have put some nice tools in there over time, and even some effects that have been in it a while are good, fun and creative to use. Of course with great control.
What could be a new name?
Native FX Rig Ultra HD! Now simulating keyboard amps and easily overdriven old PA systems! Maybe they could compartmentalize the different module collections and sell them piecemeal like a lot of companies these days... FX Rig - Guitar edition, FX Rig - Synthwave, and a dozen others.
I'm gonna play with Guitar Rig 6 today, it's on my mind now.

They say that they will be doing more machine learning models after M1 support, probably Q2 this year. Which will be almost two years from the time GR6 was released, but it will be considerably more than were released over the previous 10 years. They've folded in most of the existing NI effects and even added a new Doppler filter. It may not be a top priority but I've seen enough progress to believe that they are not done with it.Agreed wrote: Tue Feb 01, 2022 6:22 am I think they're very much on the right track with the machine learning assisted amp models in GR6, the new ones have a nice sound and feel factor that can stand up better with modern sims. I would love them to expand that quality level to their older models. Which I think they mentioned they would do a while back, and mentioned continued support for Guitar Rig 6... but then so far have not done those things to my knowledge. Well, they have a big tent and a lot going on, and they haven't exactly put their whole weight behind Guitar Rig in a long time now. So I suppose I'm glad it has had some support after almost a decade of relative dust-gathering. But if it had not, or if I had not been able to upgrade to GR6 for a good price, it wouldn't have made a difference in my recordings last year - I didn't end up feeling like it had the edge for any particular thing I was doing, personally, though it is still a lot of fun to play with and set up weird patches and clever effects.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

I got AT5 SE free with the AXE I/O interface a year ago, and then upgraded that to full AT5 with a discount for €99 which I then used in the 25 for 1 sale last year to get a whole heap of stuff (completed the t-racks collection, the ENGL AT stuff, other odds and sods)., Love AT5, so much better than AT4.mumpcake wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 3:33 pmAnd its an amazing value if you hit the right sales.Plugintester wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 2:31 pm I like Amplitube 5, it has everything, well, more than you need![]()

For me the Guitar part of GR6 is pretty good. If you don't own a mesa boogie valve you can stick a mic in front of then it seems pretty ok. So many people have used line 6 for pop etc, that unless your whole track is based on a riff, where you really want the most meaty sound you can get - most people wouldn't notice. It's anyway still mostly in the playing.BONES wrote: Mon Jan 31, 2022 1:37 am I like Linda Rockstack a lot, but it is a bit simple and can be a CPU hog. Or there is the Kuassa Amplifikation 360 thing, which is pretty full-on. There is also BBE Stompboard, although I haven't used it in years.
For me, the best thing about guitar rig is that you can drop in fx really quickly and modulate from one of the sequencer option. The splitting allows some really fun things and the usability and the sum of the whole is what makes it great to me.
With Bitwig, I can now setup similar routing, with better fidelity plug ins if I want to - but there's something more hands on about Guitar Rig that always makes it fun to drop in.

I use AmpliTube, and have since v1.0.
Sure it wasn't that great, but it was better than anything else at the time.
And it's been that way ever since.

Waves GTR3 is really one of the worst ampsims in the world!
[/quote]
First price to worst amp sims goes to
SOFTUBE Imo, just terrible soundung amps.
Second price to Guitar Rig.
These are my nominations

I also do not like Softube amps at all and Guitar Rig has some nice
effects, but would never use its amps or cabs for guitar.
Well, Waves, an upgrade would be nice imo

The Neural DSP stuff is awesome. Their Cory Wong plugin is very good for clean tones: https://neuraldsp.com/plugins/archetype-cory-wong (https://neuraldsp.com/plugins/archetype-cory-wong)With the quality of the cabinet IRs and included effects, they are one of the best in the business at the moment, IMHO.
