As the "play" button on the step sequencer cannot be controlled by MIDI (as far as I can tell), is it legit to create a step sequence and record it as audio to use on a track? I think it should be -- the sequence and sound is all the synth. Thoughts???? This is less unwieldy than having instances of it just chugging away all the time and hope that you don't turn it off by accident with the space bar or return key, which seems to do that.
Thought:
The usual would apply, wouldn't it ? Recording is fine, looping any recordings is not. Esp. given the fact that this synth is big on inconsistencies. I don't see how anyone would be able to use this sequencer without recording, tbh. Start/stop behaviour is simply unworkable, as far as I can tell.
Agreed.
Freezing whole tracks is allowed, and I think the way to go with this sequencer.

Also no rules against external sequencers. I am relying on this (also I'm still in VCV, so yeah, that's kind of VCV's whole thing isn't it?)

Since it is not explicitly mentioned in the rules, I'm not sure:

Is using an exciter allowed?

I've experimented with the Logic Pro X Exciter stock plugin and it makes the synth sound more pleasant.

It is. Subject to the usual, of course:
"Effects - what is NOT allowed:
...
Turning up the effect too much where it transforms the nature of the synth
..."

As I understand it an exciter is a kind of targeted distortion/saturation, and so should be used sparingly to "keep the original sound recognizable".

Thanks for your replies. That's what I supposed, but wanted to be sure.

I just found out how "sinister" translates. A telling name!

In general, if no kidding, a cool synth!

They should have added the ability to launch a sequencer when a note is pressed...

But there's an inverted delay!

And bending the curve of each part of the ADSR. I want to see this feature in every synthesizer on Earth!

"An engineering synthesizer for children from 7 to 12 years old, but with functionality that makes it more than a toy. Used by famous producers around the world. The aftertaste of broken glass is not a bug, but a feature."

Exactly! Although there is a subtle spirit of old analog machines in this sequencer...

Good evening dear Everybody. Here's my submission. Headphone mix as I am on vacation and I didn't bring my monitors. Maybe I'll revisit the mix once I am home. We'll see. Enjoy!

I usually download the One Synth Challenge synths but this one hurts my eyes so it's no go.

Well, Merlin just proved that you can make some brilliant, faultless Berlin-School with Synister!

Not quite sure what I'm doing - it's certainly *NOT* a submission - but I want to make a case for Synister: This is just me pressing the same key to the internal pulse of a single sound. There's no automation or post-editing. And the result actually kind of speaks to me - the synth has a personality. There's something almost organic, slightly unpredictable that keeps my interest as a listener, even on such basic terms. That makes it rather rare, I think.

Feel free to disagree. But you have to listen to the whole track first! :hihi:

Wow! This synth can be very serious. Nice foreboding thumps schiing! I agree. There's something quirky about this synth. Like you have to tame and massage it a bit.

Hahaaa! this is great. Just listened to the entire piece and I was surprised that it ended that quickly. The drum sounds organic and electronic at the same time. It's got character. It's not the merit of the guys who programmed the synth but it's the right ear and the mind that are on the lookout for beautiful hotspots. Now I am sorry I already submitted my track.
