Ok, I know I am probably stupid, but what exactly is this energyxt? I see the three different types, allot of happy users, and that it seems to be simular to tracktion.
So, if anyone (or everyone) would be so kind as to give me the reasons why I NEED to have it I would be very greatful.

Choose from one or more of these possible answers:

1) Download the demo and see for yourself.

2) If you don't know you don't need it.

3) Check www.xt-geek.com , www.xt-hq.com and the manual at http://www.feg-lueneburg.de/energyxt/ and see for yourself.

4) It's a modular host (and plugin) for sequencing, chaining, triggering and peforming with VST instruments. For example a note on your keyboard could be used to trigger a MIDI part, an audio part or an envelope to automate a VST parameter.

i agree with Hans, What makes eXT and Tracktion similar in my book is how easy they are to use. Tracktion has about a 20 min edge in the learning curve i think, just because it is how we all have been trained to think of hosts. The first time you open eXT your liable to say 'what in heck is going on here, how do i do ANYTHING?' However, after going through Nicfit's tutorial on STAND ALONE SEQUENCER (http://xt-geek.com) once it all makes perfect sense. If you want you need never leave the sequencer area, but there is much fun elsewhere as well. Another similarity between the two products is neither make it difficult to know how your work flow is going (i.e. i have this VSTI going to this VST EQ, going through this VST delay) Cubase is a friggen nightmare, and i can't speak to Cakewalk, Logic, or Live.

As has been pointed out, both Tracktion and eXT were written by passionate people, who really seem to care about every small detail and making the experience with their product fulfilling. i am afraid i have been using Tracktion more these days as a few things it offers there is always the potential some song i am in the middle of might need, and the whole export > import process is to tedious for me.

- has a midi/audio/automation sequencer with folder/marker tracks, unlimited inserts and sends, groove, freeze (pattern sequencing coming up)
- has a midi chord/arpeggiator (use it with any VST)
- can layer effects or split/layer instruments (modular MIDI/audio routing)
- standalone or VST, the sequencer even syncs to you host
- multipage docking, nice for laptops with small screen space
- skinnable
- built-in sampler
- you can drag and drop VST dll from explorer (for testing out VSTs before you install into your VST folder)
- user feedback oriented
- it has cool users

This hadn't even occured to me, but makes perfect sense given all the drag-and-drop functionality and the robust, native VST support. Great help to people who use Cakewalk or other DX hosts that require a VST wrapper. Re-running that thing constantly, no matter how trivial, is a PITA.

i did it a while back myself,bout a year now and basically spent a year using it as a modular synth within orion.lately i have found it more useful as i learn more about midi plugs and their uses and it is fast becoming one of the most valuable pieces of software i own.add to that jorgen being an actual cyborg i mean how cool is that?to own software produced by a real borg,and also he will be assimiliateing videa into it one day just to give jens a heart attack

Man, I don't know if *I'm* the one that's an idiot here, but--

-I agree eXT and Tracktion are NOT similar.
-I disagree that eXT is easy to use as a sequencer. It's simple and powerful for a bazillion other things, and that alone is worth the asking price.

But I still can't wrap my head around it for making a whole song from scratch.
