The layered snare sounds in 2000’s ballads like “unbreak my heart” by Toni Braxton, do they use some kind of secret drum samples ?

How come no one besides the big guys can get the same snare sounds ?

When listening to it, it seems like it’s something simple, but when you try to find snare samples like these, no sound sample library or plugin has these snares.
Main Computer Specs: MacBook M1 Max, 32GB, 4TB, Cubase 13.

I'm no big guy, but the secret sauce always has the same ingredients: eq, compression, lush reverb. The sample (or recorded audio) is just the raw tomato, not yet ketchup.

Now I actually listened to Toni Braxton (1996), if you want to recreate this (and I'm implying it's not too difficult, so it is far from impossible) I'd start with a Roland CR-78 or some other beatbox from that era.

I don't think there's much layer there, but I'd be pleased to be proven wrong.

The "snare" sounds more like a finger snap or light hand clap with lots of algorithmic reverb (Lex 480 large chamber?). Or do you mean the snare sound starting at 3:14? This is a pretty generic sounding snare with lots of algo hall.

no one's trying

Maybe there aren't enough women among sample developers, and guys just haven't been paying any attention to ballads since at least the 1980s.
