Logic midi region routing/channel options

The way I'm working at the moment I'd like to be able to work within one midi region and have the notes assigned to midi channels which are routed to different instruments. I figured out I could assign midi channels to notes in the event list, but I couldn't see a way to route these to different instruments.
I guessed creating a track stack with contained tracks assigned midi channels would allow them to be played via a single midi region on the stack layer, notes assigned to channels, but this didn't work.
Maybe there's a different workflow that could achieve the same thing? Is it possible to link midi regions across different tracks such that if one selects one region the linked region(s) is also displayed in the piano roll?

I think I've figured out a workflow. Link tracks via groups and select group editing.

One can display midi note colour by region and have different colours per region, and this way I can see in the piano roll which notes belong to which region. The only drawback seems to be that using the pen tool to create notes doesn't allow for the selection of which region to create the note in. Not too bad as one can copy drag notes to create more on the same region.
I'm still wondering if there's a way to do this with midi channels.

Sure, you can do this easily in the environment. Route your track to a channel splitter, and cable each MIDI channel to your destination instrument channel strip as needed.

You can use Logic's MIDI FX plugin Scripter as Channel Filter on each individual track in a Summing Stack.

Interesting, I'll investigate those options.
Is it possible to set midi note channel in the piano roll? My previous attempts to do this seemed to affect the region rather than the notes, and the only way I could achieve it was to go into the Event List, but I'd rather not have to jump between windows.

Just been experimenting with the channel splitter. The first observation is that each channel output appears to only be routable to one instrument; is there a way to route e.g. channel one to multiple instruments?
The next thing I'm wondering about is how track stacks function at the deeper level of routing. E.g. one can place midi regions on the track stack and Logic automatically routes this to all instrument tracks contained in the stack, but if I use the midi environment to route midi to the track stack the midi isn't then routed to the tracks contained in the stack. Why is this the case?

It would appear I can route a channel splitter to a monitor in order to multiply the outputs of a channel, I don't know if other modules can also do this. Now I have the problem that the order of instruments in the midi environment is a mess and not the same as in the mixer. Manually moving instrument tracks in the midi environment seems to create a bigger mess, they don't auto align. How does one keep the midi environment clean when routing is complex?
