hi i am using an axiom midi-keyboard with reason 11 (better i would like to use it...). but the input is delayed, in a way that it is almost impossible to use. midi-keyboard is plugged in via usb-port (bad idea?). does anyone have an idea how to improve/reduce the input-lag? is there a way to optimise the latency (cpu is dated... maybe that's the problem?)

Its called latency. You will need an audio interface with an ASIO USB driver to reduce the latency.

hey man, thanks for the tip... ASIO!!! that's the key - i have no dedicated audio interface but i made it with the ASIO4all-driver ... works perfect. latency is gone completly!!

Still can't recommend enough getting a proper Audio Interface

I was stubborn and insisted on ASIO4all for as long as I could. But I had some issues with it, and playback from other software was not available at the same time.
Anyway, if it works for you, enjoy it and make some great music!

I am not 100% sure how this works with ASIO4all, but if you find you need to increase your Sample Buffer on the daw you may find the latency coming back - I believe this is a consequence - generally what I do is reduce the sample size (and disable and CPU hungry sources) when I need to have live playback and recording with the lowest possible about of latency.

Yeah, I'd highly recommend that too. ASIO4ALL is more of a general purpose driver, in the case you don't have a proper audio interface with ASIO drivers. ASIO4ALL takes more CPU, and doesn't provide as good latency times than a proper ASIO driver.

hi all, i saw this again by accident, while going through some old posts.
i still use the ASIO4all drivers with (at least i think) good results (in the meantime). do you have a good recommendation for an Audio-Interface? i do everything in the PC, so i need not many features. the usb keyboard should react fast and the audio out should be good too

If you want better performance, get a RME.
