Only if DAW makers add an option to make their GUI's suitable for such a small screen.

Would be awesome, wouldn't it? You can maybe view 3 tracks at a time! Best way to make music.

I'm sure the hardware is well suited for real time audio as well.

A handheld DAW would be nothing more than a toy. Perfect for use while riding the bus on the way to middle school.

At a top price of $649 I wouldn't even consider it for playing games.

I don't think we'll see any new audio software that was specifically made possible by the Steam Deck, for a couple of reasons.

First of all, you don't need a whole lot of processing power to make music. There's tracker software for the original Game Boy that uses the built-in audio chip. The controls are the actual bottleneck. As such, the usability of this software is... debatable. A Steam Deck version would have similar problems for similar reasons.

But suppose we ignore the controls and look at a balance between processing power and portability. Again, there are portable devices that already exist, and already have ports/clones of modern DAWs/softsynths, with more than enough power to be viable platforms for their use case. They're called phones and tablets. Here on KVR, there is already a forum for discussing the use of these devices for music production.

Suppose instead that we say there's something special about the dual-purpose character of this hardware, such that it can be used as both a handheld game console and a desktop PC. I don't know what that argument would look like, exactly, but let's just pretend someone is making that argument for some reason. Even then, the Steam Deck is not the first device of its kind. That ball started rolling with the Nintendo Switch. Obviously you can't install Windows on those, but you can install it on many of the other Switch clones that have appeared in the past three years or so. And even if we ignore those, there's at least one DAW on the Switch itself, by the name of Korg Gadget.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about the Deck. I don't believe for a second that a revolution in music production is one of them.
I hate signatures too.

I had a PS Portable once. For a week or so. Playing on it was absolutely horrible. Don't know why I even bought it in the first place... I hate playing on small displays, and, especially, on such handhelds.

Doing music on something like this? Oh boy... I already hate laptop displays for DAW's.
