I'm very worried about reason studios

Even if another company bought them and installed new "smart" management, I wouldn't touch it. Unless they get rid of the codemeter/online shit protection, they are staying in my blacklist.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Make up your mind. Codemeter is precisely to avoid the on-line license check.EnGee wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 8:09 pmEven if another company bought them and installed new "smart" management, I wouldn't touch it. Let's get realistic. A DAW is a $400-600 software that requires a more sophisticated piracy protection than a serial number that's sufficient for a $50 plugin, so there's basically two options:EnGee wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:09 pmBoth are shit! - on-line checks every now & then
- a dongle or its software equivalent, i.e. codemeter, ilok, etc.
Which DAW you're currently using that has none of that?

They both suck. I mean other software handle this better why does Reason have to be so heavy handed about it? Presonus doesn't nag me every time I open S1. I log in once and I'm never bothered again. Same with Ableton and Bitwig. Even FLStudio has adopted a similar authentication method. What is Reason doing differnetly that it requires an online connection and constant log in request every time I open the app or special system level piracy protection garbage like Codemeter.antic604 wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 8:35 pmMake up your mind. When you install Codemeter and register with it it never asks you the login & password again (unless you're subscribing to or trialing REs). And I never had any issues with Codemeter - it's just there, completely transparent.apoclypse wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:20 pmThey both suck. I don't get what the fuss is all about? Perhaps you're confusing Codemeter with Authorizer which is indeed crap?

I don't want system level piracy protection on my machine. That's the issue. not only can it interfere with updates (since now you have two pieces of software that need to be updated and in sync), but it's just one more layer of crap I have to deal with when upgrading my machine. I'm not a thief and shouldn't treated as such. Reason Studio is the one with the piracy problem not me. That's why I don't buy anything with iLok authentication on it. It may not be a big deal to you but it is to me.antic604 wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:24 pmWhen you install Codemeter and register with it it never asks you the login & password again (unless you're subscribing to or trialing REs). Ok, I see. But in my eyes the whole RE environment more than makes up for that - upon installing Reason (after OS upgrade, new computer, etc.) with one click and still from the same login & password I can have all my instruments, FX and utilities installed, upgraded, authorized; both 1st and 3rd party. Try that with any other DAW and dozens of VSTs, each with their own website, login, password, serial number, a key file, a dedicated installer / hub, multiple installation paths, etc.apoclypse wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:30 pmI don't want system level piracy protection on my machine. It's a small "price" to pay, IMO and MUCH less hassle than any DAW + VSTs setup.

All the 4 DAWs I have I'm ok with its protection! Cubase, S1, Bitwig and Live. Don't you dare compare codemeter to e-licenser! I have zero problems with Cubase protection, I don't even notice it is there, while Codemeter is damn intrusive! 3 services running! Oh, and if you rent to own something or trial something, you must login online every time because Codemeter is not enough!antic604 wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:18 pmLet's get realistic. By the way, do you know that Reason 4/5 was just a serial number! That time its owner (a wonderful guy) said something like he doesn't care about piracy because he trusts the users. Those were the golden days! I still have the Power Tools book by Kurt Kurasaki (wonderful teacher) and I have learnt tons of it.

I never had any issues with Codemeter either. I don't care how much processes are running in the background - there are dozens if not hundreds when I open Task Manager anyway.EnGee wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:36 pm...Don't you dare compare codemeter to e-licenser! Also, let's wait & see how Steinberg's new system will work, especially when they'll also add subscription / renting. You're comparing apples to oranges here

In S1 I just log in with my username and password on whatever machine I use and it downloads and installs whatever add-ons instruments or whatever it needs. The same with Bitwig, Ableton etc. There is nothing Reason is doing special in that regard other than doing it with 3rd party add-on but Reason also runs into the same caveats as any other DAW when it comes to VSTs so while I appreciate your argument here, its no different than how Reason treats VSTs.antic604 wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:35 pmOk, I see. That's why I don't use VSTs with Reason. I appreciate the integrated environment and I've more than enough quality REs covering most if not all my needs when it comes to synthesis and effects.apoclypse wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:52 pm...There is nothing Reason is doing special in that regard other than doing it with 3rd party add-on but Reason also runs into the same caveats as any other DAW when it comes to VSTs so while I appreciate your argument here, its no different than how Reason treats VSTs.
Enabling VSTs in Reason was - IMO, of course - a first step to its downfall.

Why? One is a DAW for making music and the other is for peeling potatoes?!You're comparing apples to oranges here![]()

No, you're comparing Cubase running fine off of eLicenser with Reason requiring a login when subbing/renting REs.EnGee wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 11:23 pmWhy? One is a DAW for making music and the other is for peeling potatoes?!
As I said - let's see how Cubase's authorization looks like without eLicenser and with inevitable subscription service for the DAW and/or 1st party VSTs.
