Hm I can have Ableton and official + 3rd party addons (MaxForLive) running without any login. Just one click to run Ableton and everything is running. No copy protection software there. Offline working fine.antic604 wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:35 pm
Ok, I see. But in my eyes the whole RE environment more than makes up for that - upon installing Reason (after OS upgrade, new computer, etc.) with one click and still from the same login & password I can have all my instruments, FX and utilities installed, upgraded, authorized; both 1st and 3rd party.
Exactly the way they seek to make money these days, me thinks.D-Fusion wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 9:13 am Well Well.

But to install those 3rd party M4L you have to d/l them from maxforlive.com, many of them require separate purchase from dev's website and you need to keep track of updates (and perform them) yourself, put files in the right folder, make sure you're not d/l a virus, etc. Only 1st party M4Ls will be visible in Packs.kmonkey wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 11:06 amHm I can have Ableton and official + 3rd party addons (MaxForLive) running without any login. In fact the only time that I need to go online is when I want to run Reason RE inside of Ableton.
Updating m4l is another thing - it takes doubleclick to update. Shocker.
Never had the issue, that a M4L device stopped working. Max/MSP seems to be very solid in that regard, or they take much care of backward compatibility. I don't know....antic604 wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 1:07 pmBut to install those 3rd party M4L you have to d/l them from maxforlive.com, many of them require separate purchase from dev's website and you need to keep track of updates (and perform them) yourself, put files in the right folder, make sure you're not d/l a virus, etc. Only 1st party M4Ls will be visible in Packs.
None of that applies to Reason.
I never said that, although indeed rare crashes I had in Live were 90% caused by 3rd party M4L devices, not to mention that a simple LFO uses 10-15x the CPU that Bitwig's modulator doing the same does. Hard to measure that precisely, because it's still a small amount, although it quickly compounds in a full project.Rastkovic wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 2:12 pmNever had the issue, that a M4L device stopped working. Well, that escalated quickly, didn't it?
Yes, and as I always claimed, it's obvious that he never had any genuine in music production. His new company is not related to music or music production or even just media in any way. He's one of these managers who are only interested in this business management stuff - zero real interest in whatever the company they head is actually doing - which is why he's terrible at this business stuff - and yet he's allowed to move from company to company, making people's life miserable.
Very harsh, but unfortunately quite accurate.jens wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:49 pmYes, and as I always claimed, it's obvious that he never had any genuine in music production. I recently installed R13 again and boy it's such a great DAW - runs well, looks awesome, does 80-90% of what I want from it. It's so immediately inspiring, like no other DAW is (for me, of course)jens wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:49 pmYes, and as I always claimed, it's obvious that he never had any genuine in music production.
