FL5 & the damn sustain pedal

So I finally get my hands on FL, my reg code and after almost a week of anxiety, I finally have time to install FL on my brand new machine. Bought my brand new USB to MIDI interface by M-Audio, and plug it on ready to put FL5s new features to the test, and then I find that the sustain pedal hasnt been implemented. WTF?

I'm very disappointed about the absence of sustain too! I have to always switch to Live or Cubase every time I need sustain, which is often, being primarily a keyboard player. What is so difficult to implement with it?? Many keyboard players are using FL Studio at least some of the time.
Also I do not get the much-talked-about "Loop / Overdub" mode. I must be missing something obvious. I thought the idea was to allow you to loop your pattern and add sounds incrementally. Not to loop your pattern and erase every time. WTF?

Yep. I wish they had implemented it too. It's pretty annoying not having a very basic midi feature in a sequencer. Still, I like FL studio enough and will ( sigh ) put up with it.
The workaround is pretty simple to do. Create a midi out channel. Assign CC #64 to the virtual slider by right clicking the slider, press "configure", Enter "64" in controller box, press accept, thenright click again and press " link to controller, and insert "64" in controller box and again press accept . Assign the midi controller to the vst / dxi you want to use, by inserting it into a new channel and aassigningit to the same port as you use in the midi out channel.
I saved this configuration as an .flp file so I don't to be bothered doing this every time I want to start from scratch.

I've seen quite a few threads about Sustain pedals in FL Looptalk & Techsupport popping up from time to time. Apparently, Image Line suggests to insert a Midi out generator, and to link a knob to the sustain control (Midi CC64). This is not a very satisfying reply, but as only a few users seem to ask for it, they may just ignore it ?
Could we try to weight a little more, by showing them how many users are really waiting for a real support of the sustain pedal ? In fact, I don't know of any other sequencer not supporting this basic functionnality...

that is how it works. you just have to check the blend note with recorded data button (ctrl+b) and it works just like that. it's se to replace by default. it's one of my favorite new features.mub wrote:Also I do not get the much-talked-about "Loop / Overdub" mode. I did try the loop recording thing and it is pretty neat. Personally I had never thought about it, but it is usefull, specially when I'm playing bongo/conga patterns and I dont get the timing right the 1st time. Its better to just keep playing than to press stop, erase the pattern, record, and play all over. Lovin it, lovin it! Still, upset about the damn sustain.

Sustain can be enabled in less than 20 seconds using the midi out method described above. Not the most elegant solution but it works and it is only 20 seconds.
