Xfer OTT - alternatives?

so i installed OTT and this thing is REALLY? cool? i mean it brings up a lot of energy in the percussions and then of course you need to tame them etc. but i just thought this is a simplified compressor, but not so?

It actually is a simplified compressor, or better: an emulation of the name giving preset of Ableton‘s MB comp

But indeed, simultaneous up- and downward compression in one single instance of a plugin is actually quite rare

The only other I can think of is Waves’ MV2, I recall it does something similar.

Yea. Nothing can bring quite the effect with upwards and downwards compression at the same time as OTT does, which is why I keep it around even though it's a rather specific use case. It can bring some of these foley or field recordings to a different level, aka hyped version or "zoomed in", which is what I mostly use it for. The depth knob is your friend.

The MV2 does indeed look similar and seems to have an easier approach in terms of controls.

oh ok cool! i mean i put it in a project on my kick and my 2 snares and then i played around with my typical effects comp, saturator etc. but OTT really pushed them nicely up! wow, this is really awesome. i can imagine for genres like some rap beats, techno etc. this is some ALWAYS to use plugin.

I mean, there's Slate MO-TT which is basically OTT with extra bells and whistles (and no M1 support - go figure)

The thing that squeezes detail out is the "upward compression" part - but those are rare as well.
Parallel compression with some squashy squashy compressors, followed by a normal compressor 100% wet would get you in the ballpark - but then again, that's two plugins instead of one.

You could also kind of do it with two linked serial patched Fab Pro-MB.

After releasing their "Dynamics" plugin kiloHearts have an OTT preset for their Multipass which does the same thing...
IL Maximus is capable of the OTT effect as well...
