Ian McDonald has passed away. He featured on King Crimson's 1969 debut album "In the Court of the Crimson King", which I consider to be the best-ever debut album by a Prog band. He also appeared on their 1974 album "Red".

Ian also played with McDonald and Giles, Foreigner, Steve Hackett, Judy Dyble, T. Rex and released a solo album in 1999.

I saw him live once (almost 20 years ago with 21st Century Schizoid Band), and it was great to see so many of the original KC line-up on the same stage.

Best ever opening track from a debut album? There can be only one.

RIP Ian, you will be missed :(

One of my most treasured musical experiences was seeing the first gig of King Crimson - still a genius band name - in the Marquee Club. I was front row directly in front of Fripp... The drummer wearing a tie, the guitarist sitting on a stool and then they played ITCOTCK in its new blood entirety. I was mouth open gob smacked the whole set. Genius! Wouldn’t have been the same without Ian McDonald whose musical taste and talent raised what was already amazing into the stratosphere.
RIP and thank you for the memory.
