Hi,
what do you use to sequence drums ala battery4 etc... from bog standard 4 to the floor to more elaborate generative stuff... not looking for another drumVST but if anything has a great sequencer with midi out (not drag n drop) that would be interesting also

anything that stands out? ... I loved SparkLE from arturia but its deadware now I think..

I mainly use cubase but beat designer is a bit basic in that, any other daws that have as great drum seq?

thanks for the input
Tony

Logic has a nice step sequencer.
Audiomodern Playbeat has midi out in supported DAWs, smart randomisation and a rudimentary sampling engine. Might be worth having a look

thanks ploki,
will playbeat be good for drums?

What I always disliked about Cubase's MIDI plugins is that they look so alien to the rest of the DAW. I get that they're old, and designed to work with Cubase's former GUI design, but, they look very simple, and out of line with the rest of the DAW.

That said, I guess I would always opt to using the drum programming inside the DAW. More than enough functionality for me there.

playbeat is specifically designed for drums - not necessarily "fake" acoustic drumset, if you need that, toontrack/addictive with MIDI packs is more appropriate.

I also think Microtonic has MIDI out in supported sequencers - but it's more rudimentary i guess? But a great drum synth in its own right anyway.
In logic (no instrument midi out) i use it with drag/drop.

Stochas,I don't know if it's the best, but I use it once in a while. I like the chaining capability.

Piano roll in your DAW
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

idk, there's something about workflow of drum sequencers that's quicker :)

i like in Logic that you can assign automation to steps with drums.

Good drum software has at least easier polyrythm possibilities over your standard piano roll.
Of course you can do it natively in your DAW too, you usually just require separate MIDI tracks for this

Also, not every DAW has other creative stuff like probabilities, conditional trigs, random / reverse or ping pong note / event playback order, note repeat, or modulatable note shifts, modulators that modulate everything, including each other, incorporated as seemless- and intuitively

Or just simple plain ol' jamming with mutes/solos, or different patterns by a simple press on your MIDI keyboard/drum pad

im having problems getting playbeat demo to trigger battery via midi, I've set the output midi channels and notes per track, nothing.
ill give stochas a go... forgot I had that one...

I had adding notes via a piano roll... never suited me.. that's why I'm looking for a more dedicated drum sequencer..

thanks everyone

great news, thank you..

Maybe a little bit over the top but Meldas MDrummer comes with a pretty good sequencer.

And RPE2 from HY is pretty good.

Arturia Spark (SparkLE is the hardware controller) does seem to be deadware based on what I have read. However, they did have the decency to issue an update for Rosetta support on Macs in the past year, so it's not completely lost in the woods without a future.
