HY-RPE2 feels like I could do anything in that I can conceive of. I just need to get on top of it, I hope.
And the sequencer in Algonaut Atlas feels surprisingly powerful and comfortable.
I'm not particularly expert with either, but, after trying out a lot of sequencers, these two are the ones I plan to focus on.

Its the boring, not helpful answer, but yeah I just use the DAW too. As that is my preferred method of working. Those Pattern Regions that Logic introduced in latter years is really nice tool to work with, but it locks to the grid, as with other drum sequencers.
For more organic sounding grooves I just stick to the piano roll and tighten performances where I have to.
Sorry, that's not really helpful. But it might offer you a different way of thinking about working with drums.

Haha!! Well at least it would provide some kind of "standard" for others to try and find in a plugin elsewhere.Ploki wrote: Mon Feb 21, 2022 4:32 pm tbh saying DAW and then "Logic" is unfair because step sequencer is REALLY, REALLY good in logic![]()

Just got Playbeat 3. I like the interface. I think it could be very good. However, you should always buy the software that exists, not that which you hope will exist, and it's missing the ability to import MIDI. You have to go with the provided presets, none of which are useful to me, or make your own from scratch, which is an attraction for me. With its randomization by channel, it'll be easy to churn out variations so the usual repetition problem goes away.
I pulled the trigger because the dev has promised that MIDI import is coming. Also, it was a killer deal, between the sale going on and the PluginBoutique bucks I had.
Guess we'll see.

in my current setup i use hy-rpe2 to sequence atlas. i really like it, its such a breeze to work with, just about anything you might want to do is pretty intuitive. i dont think ive ever needed to look up how to do anything in it.GreyLion wrote: Sun Feb 13, 2022 12:22 am HY-RPE2 feels like I could do anything in that I can conceive of. I don't think this is boring at all. It's the obvious answer for me, and the way I do it as well.simon.a.billington wrote: Mon Feb 21, 2022 2:38 pm Its the boring, not helpful answer, but yeah I just use the DAW too. Geist 2 was pretty damn good with lots of options for editing quickly.
I’ve been impressed by XO, but the number of bars is obviously not great. You can get past that by using the A/B option (including 1 button press of AAB) and by creating multiple variations as alternate presets.
Then yes, the DAW. I usually play in my patterns with Push 2 and Live with Drum Racks.

Sorry to hijack but this is relevant to my needs too. Is there a free standalone app or DAW that even a real drummer (hehe) could use just for simple stuff?
The drummer in my band wants to get into a bit of drum programming as a kind of learning/practicing tool - just sequencing a few patterns and then playing along on headphones. Basic hihat, kick, snare - with BPM and time-signatures.
I suggested phone apps but he's not keen - would prefer something PC-based.
