Dune's onboard Arp-step sequncer is nice... as for weaving arps, it;s interesting to play with the "numbers", e.g. a 12-step pattern over 16 beat bars, 7 step pattern, etc - it reminds me of fractions back in school where you had to find the lowest common denominator :)
Ive got the Arturia collection but havent spent much time with dx7 yet, will give it a go. Haha yeah music is all maths really, I have tried messing with different time sigs on the arps but it never comes to anything for me. I think I just lack talent at the end of the day, sometimes it feels like :bang: but most of the time I have fun trying.

I wonder what my number would have been if the shop keeper hadn't binned the box? Actually I probably wouldnt have bought the whole box given I'd never heard of the band. Lucky for me they were sold separately so my financial risk was low. But what if it was 000001? :dog: Doesnt bear thinking about.

Never heard of em

Kick Muck has one of the greatest ever guitar riffs.

Not sure why no one has ever really done anything in the same vein as the Ozrics. They're a lot closer to modern dance music than any of the other rock precursors - their use of synths was always more sophisticated than Hawkwind or Neu, and they embraced tranciness and danceability in a way that Kraftwerk never did. When you think about Eat Static, it seems to me that the people inspired by the Ozrics went off to make Goa trance rather than use guitars.

you do see odd bands at festivals, but as i said in my first post, they're usually derivatives and it sounds a bit meh.
it's a difficult sound to "copy" without sounding pastiche.
in these cases, it always makes me reach for the original, to clear out my ears :hihi:

Fantastic to hear from some fellow Ozric people! Everyone has their favorites from different eras I suppose, for my part I'd say:

Oolite grove - "live" stream version from "Spice Doubt", with Citadel Jam - Sublime guitar majesty!!
Myriapod - Like an M C Escher in sonic form, perfectly expressing the spirality of music with that "impossible" guitar riff
Ayurvedic - Roly at his finest and a masterfully woven tune with so many trade-mark elements
Kick Muck - Sheer genius... and if you've ever seen them play it live (e.g. the 2002 Pongmasters) it moves into truly hypersonic territory.

...and those are just the "guitary" tracks...

The more I think about it, the more I realize it's probably impossible to find anything remotely like the Ozrics simply cos it's so original... and why would you want to when there's OZrics themselves?!

My old band was once accused of sounding like a bad Ozrics cover band, which was actually a compliment way above our station since we weren't good enough to be even a bad Ozrics cover band... that said, in the long run we carved a niche of sorts doing something completely different but still liked (and also disliked) by the same sort of people.

Many years on, I hope to do the same with my current music... as I said in my OP - at the moment there's lots of Ozricy sounds coming out, but eventually all these ideas will get combined with other inspirations, jumbled around, shaken up a bit then re-formed into something new.

I hope to be able to share some of it with you good folks when the time is right :)

Thanks for all the enlightening suggestions so far... I have quite a list to be checking out, I'm sure my horizons will be broadened!!
