It's difficult to pinpoint favourite tracks from The Ozrics but if I had to, I think it would be every track on Pungent Effulgent and the title track Arborescence. Admittedly there are a few albums I haven't heard yet.AudioBabble wrote: Sun Feb 13, 2022 11:42 pm Fantastic to hear from some fellow Ozric people! Everyone has their favorites from different eras I suppose, for my part I'd say:
Oolite grove - "live" stream version from "Spice Doubt", with Citadel Jam - Sublime guitar majesty!!
Myriapod - Like an M C Escher in sonic form, perfectly expressing the spirality of music with that "impossible" guitar riff
Ayurvedic - Roly at his finest and a masterfully woven tune with so many trade-mark elements
Kick Muck - Sheer genius... and if you've ever seen them play it live (e.g. the 2002 Pongmasters) it moves into truly hypersonic territory.
...and those are just the "guitary" tracks...
Does anyone else make music like Ozric Tentacles?

as we seem to all agree, they are a thing alone...
a couple of bands, id imagine would fit in a gig setting with the ozrics and not feel out of place...
carlton melton, a bit more stoner post rock maybe, but nice synth use, and some nice riffs, although nothing as intricate as ed's playing.
transambient communications, ambient guitar stuff, saw these (this guy) with porcupine tree around 93/4 in a lecture theatre in salford uni. awesome gig, kava kava also played
(sky moves sideways tour)

There's a couple of old Sound on Sound interviews I just found that are quite entertaining.

I know no band that are like them, but some that can sound like some of their tracks, but not as diverse.
Some acts I've listened to that could remind me of them is Bland Bladen, Øresund Space Collective and some of OTT's tracks. Not the same...and different.
One synth I've seen and read that they don't part with is their Novation Supernova...so I recently bought a rack edition NS2 48-voice poly...need to set it up soon. Bad on priorities lately.

Funnily enough, Ozrics are playing at Colchester Arts Centre tomorrow night. Followed by Gong on March 5th. It'll be a head full for the Essex out-landers.AudioBabble wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 4:32 pm Another mind-blowingly good band which I had the good fortune to catch live at Colchester Arts Centre back 1999.
It's been a decade at least since I last listened to Ozrics. Erpland was my favourite album back in the '90s.
eh?

I love this album. First met them at a double concert with them and ÖST. Some overlap in crew between those two.
It was a real trip of a concert in a too little space. Concrete cellar with a half-tube form. A surreal ambience chamber. Had a blast of a time.

My favourite bit:
The forthcoming album resolutely remains an analogue recording made on the Otari MK80 24‑track. Ed is something of a traditionalist, avoiding the temptation of going digital with the advent of popular mediums like the Alesis ADAT and Tascam DA88: "They're only 8‑track, and I use 12 tracks for recording the drums alone! I know they can be chained, but I'm still a little suspicious of this. I often do things like splicing and editing tape which you can't do on these digital machines. I suppose you could with something like Digidesign's Pro Tools, but then you're talking about loads more money, and it turns into a situation where you have to have a computer screen in the studio, which does my head in!"

Good to hear! Great venue, atmospherically speaking although a bit echoey [surprisingly wasn't all that busy for PT back then].Dunbar wrote: Mon Feb 14, 2022 8:54 pmFunnily enough, Ozrics are playing at Colchester Arts Centre tomorrow night. I Left the UK about 14 years ago, and that is one of the things I miss -- being able to hop in the car and see really amazing bands at interesting venues... The White Hart in High Wycombe was a great spot.. saw Ozrics there once - the most close-up setting I ever saw them in. It was so cramped they couldn't do their usual disappear off-stage pre-encore... I remember Rad the drummer just put his head on the snare drum and didn't move for a full ten minutes!
