VST3 folder locations

A centralized fixed plugin location saves tech support for different companies tons of times....Some people use customize location and have an older version of a plugin in one, and a newer version in another (vst2), there are countless examples of it here even on kvr.
But apparently no, setting a location is now considered a limitation.
I just can't..
smh
Do I dare add that AU and AAX have fixed locations too?

A fixed location is a limitation because a lot of people now use SSD for their OS and their main software. I put my plugins on an external hard drive because I have so many, if they were on my main HD, my SSD would be full (it's a 500 GB one).zvenx wrote: Mon Feb 14, 2022 7:21 pm But apparently no, setting a location is now considered a limitation.

Of course, it would be better to be able to choose the location, but, frankly, with the size of datastores these days, and the size of the .vst3 files, it's a non issue for me.
Just more stuff to complain about, I guess.

Just checked. About 2.28 GB for my VST3 folder. With ~100 VST's installed.
Edit: Ok, fake news. More like ~200 VST's.
Should check how much stuff I have installed more frequently...

No one ever complains about applications being installed to Program Files.
There’s no way your plugins should be taking up hundreds of gigs. If they’re taking up more than a few gb you must be installing supporting data like sound libraries to your VST3 folder. In every case that I am aware of, you can select the location for accompanying sample libraries during install (e.g., MODO DRUM, Arturia Mellotron V, AmpleSound, etc.) I keep all of that on an audio exclusive SSD.

I think a lot of people just install everything to whatever the default location is and end up with files and folders all over their drives and no idea where anything is installed.jamcat wrote: Mon Feb 14, 2022 8:39 pm In every case that I am aware of, you can select the location for accompanying sample libraries during install. I know. It's probably time for a clean up ...

I certainly have much more plugins than the average KVR user this thread.
