Nothing surprising to you I am sure. I heard about it on NPR this afternon. It involves efforts to loosen the Endangered Species Act which the Clinton administration weilded in a forceful but unfortunately in a heavyhanded manner. This was to the detriment of it's purpose since the courts ruled its provisions invalid. Bush wants to loosen the designation of endangered species such that in the NW few if any Salmon or Steelhead watersheds will be adequately sheild from development, logging or damming.Beardedone wrote:
Bush bugs me mostly for his total disregard for the environmental issues in favour of consumptive land use. For example, new policies will reverse years of recovery efforts in the Northwest Salmon and Steelhead watershead.
Amen. He's probably the worst environmental president we've ever had. I studied freshwater Ecology in the Pacific NW and have not heard of the new policies. Could you elaborate Gordon?
I think the worst is when Bush pulled the US out of the Kyoto Treaty. It's basically like saying, "Screw the world and the air that we all breathe, me and my buddies want to make some money".

It's madness. Spend a week floating these rivers changesany intelligent caring person forever. The loss of thousands of miles of habitat of this quality is beyond sickening. It is criminal.
