Experience with Reason/ReWire...

How.
What experience have you had with Reason/ReWire and your host of choice (Cubase, Sonar, Logic, ProTools, etc...)?
This isnt an offer to bash Reason (or it's upgrade). I'd just like to hear from people who have used Reason (ReWire) and learn whether it functioned well within their host, was complicated to setup, if it took up too much RAM, caused crashes, etc.
Thanks a million,
Jebudas

Works great for me with Tracktion. The only problem I've had when Rewired is that it will drop notes at the beginning if the playback marker is at exactly the same time. I just add a measure in before my song starts, and that takes care of it well enough. RAM usage is not excessive on my 1GB machine. I have notice a few more dropouts when running Rewired (even if there's nothing in Tracktion and everything is done in Reason), but not frequently that it's a major problem.
I've never had a crash that was caused by Rewire with Tracktion, although T has crashed while doing something else when I was rewired. This is not good, since Reason needs to be closed down first, and I basically had to restart in order to do anything (with music programs) after the crash.

I use tracktion/reason in rewire mode alot. Mostly things work ok, save for a few glitches. I've never got a crash however. The most annoying glitches
-frequent stuck notes, mostly when 'abort and restarting' midi recording
-some devices skip the first beat of the track (dr. rex seems to do this alot), forcing you to move the whole track up a bar.
-a very weird glitch where all my midi clips get offset a few ticks. Only has ever happened with Rewire...
Overall I think Tracktion is a great Rewire host, even if its not perfect. I've heard other hosts (cubase) has strange issues with forcing each Rewire channel to mono. Yikes!

Works great in LIVE ....
Too well infact.
I sequence all devices from Live itself and rarely touch the Reason sequencer at all (bar matrix devices and redrum).
I find REX slices easier to manipulate from within Live also.
Very stable ,exceptionally CPU efficient especially when using a wall of NNXT's lol.
I also find VST comp's etc make a massive difference to the overall sound of Reason and it compliments my VST list nicely.
I think V3 will be mch better with the Combinator and sequncing also as grouped devices will be controllable and sequenced from one rewire midi lane (instead of the usual 2/3 playing the same midi track etc etc) ...
So I'm actually holding on to Reason methinks but I wont be able to afford the upgrade for a few good months yet

Works great for me with SX1.06. Looking forward to the Combinator as it will greatly enhance the ReWire functionality. I use Reason basically as rack and the Combinator with will increase that functionally manifold for ReWire much as chainers (Chainer/EnergyXT) do for VST. Not sure what use I'll find for the new mastering chain.

I use Reason slaved to Abelton and I love it ,,no problems at all.
The one thing I wouldn't mind though,,is that I never use the same tempo twice in a row, when I bring the project back up its always the wrong bpm,so if Abelton could save a rewire project and remember the tempo and other settings as soon as I add Reason would be nice.
What I do now is put the tempo setting in the Abelton's file title.

I don't even use the Reason sequencer at all anymore. I use Reason rewired with Live 4, and its great!!
I don't get any tempo problems. Load the Live file, load the Reason file. Press play. Simple.

Works great in SONAR... with two restrictions:
1) SONAR maps Reason devices as MIDI channels, so you only get 16 of them, and they're selected by the order they're added to the rack.
2) SONAR only maps the first two Rewire audio outputs as a stereo pair, and the rest as mono outs.
Both very annoying at first, but you learn to get by. I use SONAR/Reason for practically everything. (Or more specifically, I use NN-XT/Scream4 for damn near everything!
)
I've played with Reason and the Live demo: Live handles Rewire much more intelligently in terms of configuration.

You should try out Live.. you get all 64 channels, you get pairs and mono's - just select which you need, and you can choose which outputs connect with which channels in Live. Its great, easily the best implementation of rewire.Markleford wrote:Works great in SONAR... with two restrictions:

I used Tracktion for awhile, but because of the Rewire issues already mentioned with it earlier in this thread, I dropped it.
I now use Live4 and like the other folks, I sequence entirely in Live. It is soooooo integrated! And yes, the combinators will make this an even better experience. I can't recommend Live enough as the best Rewire Host I could find.

Oh yeah, no crashes and very CPU friendly.drez wrote:I used Tracktion for awhile, but because of the Rewire issues already mentioned with it earlier in this thread, I dropped it.

I'm using Live 3,does Live 4 remember Reason's tempo for that song when you rewire them back up?Acolmiztli wrote:I don't even use the Reason sequencer at all anymore. I use Reason rewired with Live 4, and its great!!

I mean if Abelton is set at 100bpm and I load Reason up with 140bpm,,Abelton doesn't change to 140bpm..

I believe it will always keep the time of whatever is the rewire master, so I think Live will always dictate the tempo.vtx wrote:I'm using Live 3,does Live 4 remember Reason's tempo for that song when you rewire them back up?Acolmiztli wrote:I don't even use the Reason sequencer at all anymore. The Rewire protocol says that the slave always has to obey the master's tempo, but the master can "take recommendations" from the slave. Some hosts (known as Mixer Applications in Rewire-speak) will not respond to a tempo change in the Panel App (in this case Reason), such as DP, while others will. Most that I've tried do accept tempo changes from the Panel App.

alas only rewire 1 and a few transportation hassles... i have to mention buzz here
input 64 rewire channels into buzz as rewire host, and use reasons synth within your buzz modular fx expirience
