Hi, I really want to do something like this:
- there are 3 drum channels: kick, snare, hat;
- they are routed to 2 separate busses;
- the 2 separate busses are routed to another mix insert;
- all of the inserts above are routed to a 'final' bus.

What is missing in my theory is how do I make the final bus have volume control over the INPUT to the last 'final' bus? I tried to do that with Waves NLS and it seemed perfect for that use case until I figured out that it changes the channel output (on a post-effect level which messes up the routing to consecutive busses because of changed volume) instead of input to the 'final' bus.

The reason is I want to blend the natural, clean, unprocessed sound in with the busses to make an interesting effect.

I use FL 20. I don't want to mess with FL inserts unless there's some easy way to do it with Patcher.

Please recommend any VSTs that fit.

I can't speak to how to do it in FL if there is a way, but I can to some VSTs that might fit. First I thought HoRNet CLMS, but you seem to want it sending in "reverse", and not sure it will work like that. Maybe it would? But AFAIK you can have multiple sends but only one receive, and you seem to need one send and multiple receives. But what about HoRNet VU Meter with grouping and the auto gain function enabled?

Otherwise, perhaps Letimix Gainmatch or TBProAudio ABLM2 might get you where you need to go.

You have to use prefader sends from the clean channel to parallel channels and then route all three to a common bus

Yes, that's totally what I'm trying to do, but I want to have a convenient way of manipulating the loudness of sends without messing with going into each channel separately.

I will check those recommended soon.

Its as easy as Ploki said. Anything other than that is a mess… Don’t try to simplify what is easy in the first place… You can’t avoid by any means to go into each channel separately…
Adding any VST will complicate things (and drain your pocket…)

Pre-fader sends = your friends :)
