Just want to comment that I'm also quite unfamiliar with all but one of the synths, so I voted based on the depth and quality of the sounds, and the overall musicality of the contributions.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

@immanencer I agree with Doctorbob, it would be really a shame if your track was a DQ - i really liked it!

As far as i know the voting strategies differ more or less from participant to participant and i guess it´s absolutely ok to vote based on personal taste, especially if you are not that familiar with the plugin / sound-synthesis someone else used.

I am also unfamiliar with most of the used Plugins / Hardware and after a bit of thought i choose to not let that influence my votings. I just didn´t have enough time to look into each one in depth to get a fair opinion.

I also just voted with 3,4,5s... and a single 1 of course.
So well done everyone, i get the feeling that the quality of tracks goes up each OSC and therefore the voting gets exponentially harder :hihi:

Of course, I forgot to mention that besides the 3,4,5's, I voted my own track a 6 :D

@immanencer - I definitely think you should vote. You have as much right as everyone else. And in a round with 40 different synths - you can't know them all. Just vote on what you like. Don't take it too seriously. This is all just fun yeah? I really hope you change your mind.

+1! Vote! honestly I always vote for the tracks I like most, because we make music to be enjoyed right? I know others vote this way because even I occasionally get a 5! If it were based on technical ability and knowledge of synthesis, I would always get straight 2s!

I voted but I failed to write comments for everyone as I planned to do. I'm sorry for that.

Thanks to those who wrote responses to my quandary. OK, I'll give another go, but it'll likely be all 4s and 5s. In the past I've voted based on sound design, composition with the synth, and overall production/mixing. Some of the tracks made with hardware sound better or worse than the others to me, and I don't know how much of this is due to workflow. I remember spending hours on certain tasks while recording to 4-track cassette tape decades ago that I could now do in minutes (or less) with a DAW, and so I'd hate to ignorantly give somebody a lower score for a truly herculean task -- will give the benefit of doubt! (And sorry to the synth experts here if I don't recognize genius!) :ud:

Luxury!!!!!!! Started out on 1/4" r2r and half track Revox's ... any "mixing" was done before laying to tape. One shot, and that's it! I still have my Tascam 244 Portastudio - even replaced the recording head recently! (Yes, 2-4-4 !!)

Yes we are so spoilt now aren't we? I would make the backing track on my Amiga, and then record guitar & vocals on a second hand Fostex 4 track. So much bouncing. Not much chance for mixing! The 90s me would be stunned at what I have at my disposal now. In a way there are too many options now. I like the OSC concept because it narrows down the options!

Excellent! Glad you're back in. I have given mostly 4s and 5s. Everyone has made such an effort. And I've definitely given a bump up to people who have struggled with unwieldly hardware synths.

I hope that was said in a Monty Python style Yorkshire accent. I can see you're from York! :)

Yup. There'll be trouble upt'mill else!

Started my recording time with a 1/2 track CIVIC, and an Acos mic back in 1960 when I was 10!

@doctorbob - wow, that must beat everyone else here hands down! Must have been exciting to see the Moogs etc come out in real-time. I was born when Oxygene was released. It feels like you're the Wise Grand Master of the group - looking at all the nippers running about :)

I have not left comments, sorry. I don't have things to say. Sometimes LESS is MORE ... Thanks for all your comments and feedback on my track.
Only one thing ... Kyles track touched me ...simple and yet elaborate.
Thank you, Peter. That means more than I could ever convey. Truly.
