So is every Windows user here running Windows 10 or 11? Damn shame because this sampler looks pretty cool but doesn’t work with Windows 8.1. Btw I’m still on 8.1 because it works flawlessly on my main rig.

I'm new to sampler library managers, and I installed Cosmos and I was testing it out briefly while it was scanning some folders on my drives and it seems to work pretty well. Thank goodness for SSDs. I feel sorry for anybody who still uses spinning media for anything else besides backup maybe.
I know the concept is not new, but the graphical representation of the samples is pretty cool and useful. It gives me a whole new insight and perspective into what I actually have on my drives and it ought to make finding sounds a bit easier now.
If this works out well with the first few folders I imported into it, then I plan on adding all of my samples to it eventually.

Alright... I think I just figured out why Cosmos is taking so freaking long to catalog all my samples (yes it's still going).
It looks like it's literally analyzing each and every sound, with some sorta AI styled algorithm.
For example... I have a bunch of one-shot foley type fx samples... and it's just categorized one, an "Exhaust Hit" (that's an actual cars exhaust pipe being struck with something), with the tags: tabla, hit, acoustic, drum, hand drum, percussive. In the key of E.

I'm not even mad... that's pretty damned cool.

Yes, that's what I assumed it was doing from the start.progtronic wrote: Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:17 pm Alright... I think I just figured out why Cosmos is taking so freaking long to catalog all my samples (yes it's still going).

I'm currently adding some folders to it also and it's still scanning, it's going to take a while before it's done, but I see new dots being added to the sreen all of the time, so it's slowly but surely working its way through each sound, analyzing the sound, adding the info to its database I assume, and then moving on to the next sound.
I started by doing about 25,000 samples, so it'll probably take a bit, but that's ok, because once they're scanned it'll go quickly the next time I open the app. I got plenty more samples that I'll be adding too when those are done.

In Cosmos, I first added one folder containing 42,322 wav-files, and scanned it, but Cosmos only reported 31,272 files. Then I added another folder separately containing 33,018 wav-files, but Cosmos didn't scan that at all, and thus reported 0 files. This isn't entirely satisfying... A few thousand files here and a few thousand files there; it soon adds up.

If you add new samples into an existing folder (that's already been scanned), you have to click the 'refresh' icon (circle-arrow thing) next to the local folders up top. Adding a whole new folder however... should have automatically started a new scan... so that's weird.Tpot wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 12:12 am In Cosmos, I first added one folder containing 42,322 wav-files, and scanned it, but Cosmos only reported 31,272 files. Maybe try the refresh icon?
The only other thing I can think of... is that some of the files were unable to be read (for whatever reason), and maybe the entire other folder you added was also unreadable?
You could try restarting Cosmos, or even just re-boot your computer. Might be a temporary bug somewhere.

I'm going to keep looking at these real world experiences before taking the plunge. XO is astoundingly good at handling huge numbers of samples, but of course it's geared up for drum one-shots wheras Cosmos does much more.Tpot wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 12:12 am In Cosmos, I first added one folder containing 42,322 wav-files, and scanned it, but Cosmos only reported 31,272 files. Cosmos seems quite cool, but I'm demoing CR8 and testing the "root detection" and every sample I've tried so far it's gotten wrong. I consider this a basic feature for a sampler in 2022, am I missing something?
I don't really see much reason to grab this over Iris 2 which has more features and always gets the root auto-detect right on the first try.
