My first thought was similar, but with regard to Bitwigs sampler (or Logicsj. Then I watched that video which showed some tricks…
No, not at all useless. It can do things no other sampler can do, this combined with Cosmos will even breath new life into your old samplers… The comparison with Sample monsters like Kontakt (or Halion) is just ridiculous. Its as if you compare a motorbike with a 30-ton truck and complain you can’t transport much with it… But for sure you would have more fun with the bike…

sure hyperbole is fun...but I don't see that as true...care to explain

I wonder about the sound quality too from the videos I have seen so far....people forget not every pcm implementation is equal...the interpolation algos make a difference...i remember i think discodsp referenced a research paper comparing some popular samplers for accuracy...you'd be surprised the variance...i think there is a mistaken notion that most samplists dont care about sound quality when sample mangling
Edit: Just saw a guy comparing the same sample with mirrored settings in CR8 and serato...the difference was clear even through youtube...I will have to demo

Fwiw, this is just 3 distorted E notes recorded on top of each other, merged and slapped into CR8. Took me a mere 2 minutes to build the entire thing from scratch. The only additional FX is some stereo delay coming with Logic.
In case anyone wants to have a look, I could post the patch as well.

I used "melodic" ("harmonic" would've done just as fine for this particular sample I think) and the manual (hand icon) setting on the speed knob, then used one LFO and the ModWheel to "scan" through a certain range of the file. That mode alone is worth gold.

Here's the patch, in case you want to have a look:

Patch goes into the "CR8 Sampler User Presets" folder, the included sample can go anywhere, just point CR8 to it when loading the preset.

Watch the video on page 3. I never came across something like “flat” in any sampler I know. And if it exists anywhere I am sure it needs more than a single click…

Native instruments Form excels at that sort of thing.

So from checking this out, Waves just put out clones of XO & Mimic for a total of currently 10$. Hm, that's a pretty tasty price, even for them. Don't know if I need it, but for that price just playing around with it is worth it to me.

Well considering that XO is only for rhythms, and Cosmos is for all sample types, it's a total clone for sure.

Form certainly is way more capable than CR8 but not even remotely as intuitive or fast to deal with.
This is where Waves IMO really did a great job.
Also, Form is really CPU hungry whereas CR8 is behaving quite nicely. And it's 99 bucks in case you don't own Komplete.

I'm really not the person to blindly praise whatever plugins, there's also quite some things I'd already like to see in CR8 (which likely will never come, given Waves' tradition of rather not updating existing products beyond some bug fixes), such as at least a simple modulation and delay FX section, but even without those, I can only say that Waves did a pretty impressive job on this one. Creating playable samplebased instruments with quite some character has never been easier IMO (admittedly, I'm however not familiar with the internal offerings of other hosts than Logic).
Seriously, for me this has got to be the most inspiring instrument plugin in quite a while.

yeah NI Form and others have a single button flatten pitch thing; but form is psola not really a sampler, every resynthesis method loses way too much timbre information and psycho-acoustic cues to be called a sampler IMO, why I'm surprised how many people call iris a sampler and compare it to CR8...the making of the playhead static "freeze" is available in many samplers like mulab, karma, etc...every full function pcm sampler has always been a subtractive synth...just use the sample markers to drive the playhead into self oscillation, turn the cutoff on the filter; voila subtractive synth with unlimited waveforms....every full function pcm sampler has always been a wave scanning/grainplay(types of "granular") synth...just use the loop markers to make a small loop area and modulate loop markers in unison...most modern samplers have modulatable timestretch and multiple ways to modulate playhead....yellow tools for example had this 15 yrs ago; and even when not, you could always HQ timestretch in your daw timeline and then import into ur sampler multiple versions of the sample at different stretch percentages, and then velocity and/or key split
samplers have always been able to do double duty as synths

I'm more interested in COSMOS - can it be used with other samplers/DAWs or is it just a companion to all things Waves
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

i believe it is a separate standalone app...downside is I believe you have to be online and connecting to waves servers...dont know if drag and drop from cosmos works with other samplers other than cr8...actual users can confirm?
