...downside is I believe you have to be online and connecting to waves servers...
Nope. It works locally with your sample folders. No sign of connection after you sign in once to activate Cosmos. The Waves Local Server is apparently used for this with a cosmos.sqlite db on your drive.
dont know if drag and drop from cosmos works with other samplers other than cr8...actual users can confirm?
It's standalone, and it works with other samplers, as well as drag and drop directly onto DAW tracks.

Well considering that XO is only for rhythms, and Cosmos is for all sample types, it's a total clone for sure.
I mean, it's very, very obvious what they are copying here. For me that's good, but let's not kid ourselves here.

So, thought my old testing laptop (3rd gen intel5) was running a bit hot/audio choppy since installing CR8 and discovered a wavespluginservice using ~30-40%, up to 400MB..? Is this part of the usual Waves experience?

Post

Each time I drag a new sample into cre8 from cosmos, it reverts back to default and I lose all the changes I've made to modulation, filters etc. Is that what everyone else is seeing?

Cosmos does look nice, unfortunately it wan't that I log into my Waves account but won't do it. In the meaning as it's obviously not doing anything just saying "wrong password or username". Seems to be a common problem, since that it's in the Waves FAQs, their "solutions" are about as helpful as, yea well I can't think of anything as little helpful.

Anyone had this problem before? What can I do? Lay down and cry?

Edit: Nevermind, reboot did the trick. Leaving the comment here anyway. If you have this problem kind stranger, reboot your computer first ;)

Tried it nice simple sampler, but one empty single instance uses more than 1gb of ram. Too resource hungry. Plus the waves service 200-400mb penalty.

In comparison Abletons simpler uses about 80mb with an empty instance. Reapers RS5k 20mb.

this matches other reports that points to a prevailing conspiracy theory....like every free app trying to get on your phone or computer....its probably spying on you in the background all the time, recording your data to sell...waves is messaging that there is some altruism behind it...but is it just as the pro market dried up, so the most expensive and cpu efficient plugin maker just pivoted from pros to consumers, used there market share and size to force the whole industry down to the 29$ price point where most of their competitors cant survive,...and now their plugs are some of the worst on cpu and resources potentially because of all the spying...due to the real money being in that second revenue stream selling your data...will make an interesting mba case study one day lol

Didn't notice before but correct, it's using plenty of RAM - around 800MB unter macOS Mojave for a single full reset instance.
Fwiw, the "Waves penalty" is just around 20-30MB over here.

I loaded CR8 in Reaper on Windows 10, and it seems to use about 920MB RAM per instance. It's also about 905 MB in Ableton.

But the CPU hit is very low.

While Cosmos is just sitting here idle with one scanned folder selected in the dot plot view, it's using less than 90MB RAM, and no CPU.

However, when I add a new sample folder for Cosmos to index, it uses all my CPU cores at about 50% until it completes the scan. Some large folders take a while! And the RAM also takes a big bump up during that process. But after the scan, everything settles down, and I don't observe this during normal use.

900 RAM for an empty sampler seems like a bug.

First time since getting this MacBook M1 Pro I have heard the fans come on. RAM also crapped out (16GB) just whilst scanning libraries. No other processes or web pages open at the time.

I'm on macOS and I only experienced this while COSMOS was processing new samples for tagging. Once it was done there was no significant wavespluginserver CPU usage.

Yeah, or simply less than shiny programming.

I really dig this thing a whole lot, but it's pretty much like great algorithms in a very mediocre package.

Fwiw, CR8 doesn't feature any voice stealing - and with a maximum of 16 voices you can easily run into issues when blending thick chords into each other. Noticed this a few times already.

Unfortunately, Waves will never update any features unless there's a version jump. They just don't do that.
