Emagic could quite easily release the basic package without the plugins authorised - they would make money there, with the purchase of their plugs. But lets be honest, as a Logic user from day 1 (3 floppies on an Atari - when it used to be called Notator ... ) Logic 5 is now showing its age, there is so much it can't do, so many new plugs it can't host, so many innovations it can no longer realize ....
After so long I've found myself actively looking for a new host cos of the missing elements.

Emagic no longer exist and neither does the sale or support of any Logic for pc software.
If the above is correct then who are you stealing from?
Not from Apple as they don't do pc's and didn't aquire it for the pc. The code was re written just for the mac with no regard for the pc users.
Pirating is theft, no question but the main point here is that no potential sales are being harmed by this.
Sorry, rant over.

After 10 years i know what it can do - and what it can't; it can't, for example run WAVES 5. Now, whatever your opinion on that particular software, it is an example of how I am already becoming limited with regards to what i can and can't use. I also have to use a Freeze plug, a preset management plug cos Logic uses its own format and I can run neither z3ta, the Arturia software nor any other synth as an FX plug. Don't get me wrong, Logic is a brilliant piece of kit, but the thin end of the wedge is here already, and getting not so thin by the day.
It us my choice to stay with Logic, or not. But it can't be denied that the choice is getting harder.

Code that exists in LAW 5 exists in LP6, LE6, LP7 and LE7. Simple as that. It was not a total re-write, as most of the code base from Logic 5 and previous was portable.fake wrote:![]()

So, by 'stealing' L5, you're stealing from Apple. They own the code. They sell licenses to the code. you didn't buy a license, but yet you're using the code. I don't understand how you can't fathom that?
As far as harming sales, that argument is subjective, and is not the main point here.

The code was created by the developers and we have to, WE HAVE TO, defend their right to do with it what they want. It is THEIR choice NOT to develop it any longer for the PC and NOT to make it freely available. Whether we agree with their choice or not, if we have any principals at all, we MUST defend their right to make that choice. Warez software destroys that principal ... and cannot be defended under any circumastances. YES, it is there, and YES it is available but we must resist, whatever the temptation, whatever the 'rewards' or we have, as i said at the start, no principals whatsoever.
If you bend your resolve to suit your own needs, how can you not allow others to do the same - even if you don't agree with theirs.
You have to stick to your principals, even when it hurts (or even when it seems that to not do so doesn't hurt anyone else). This is the cost and it must be payed

Actually, I think it would be more correct to say you may be violating copyright law. And you may be violating the DMCA (or equivalent) depending on your jurisdiction.mjones4th wrote: Code that exists in LAW 5 exists in LP6, LE6, LP7 and LE7. Simple as that. So, by 'stealing' L5, you're stealing from Apple. They own the code. They sell licenses to the code.
If you previously agreed to a EULA, you may also be violating your contract with Emagic and/or Apple. Again, subject to jurisdiction.
I know that in Canada (my jurisdiction), the law is much kinder to those who make unauthorized copies for personal reasons than to those who make unauthorized copies for mass distribution.
If you are calling a violation of copyright law "stealing" then that is a moral judgement, not a legal one. IMHO.

Those can't be authorized for Windows anymore either.TechNoiZ wrote:Emagic could quite easily release the basic package without the plugins authorised - they would make money there, with the purchase of their plugs.
True. For me the most annoying thing is the non existance of offline bouncing along with the not-at-all working OMF export (it seems even Logic7 still doesn't do that properly), just because I need to transfer files back and forth between several hosts.Logic 5 is now showing its age, there is so much it can't do, so many new plugs it can't host, so many innovations it can no longer realize ....
Anyways, did you try EnergyXT in Logic? Fixes a lot of incompatibility issues for certain plugins (maybe Waves as well).
Same here. I will continue using Logic (on some Macs), but it might become occasional rather than mainly one day. I just don't buy into Apple's tactics, do believe that Logic will lose its position as well (well, not now, but one day more or less soon). After so long I've found myself actively looking for a new host cos of the missing elements.
Too bad SX isn't there for me yet, but it's getting better.

Actually my xs key (Logic gold 5.5.1 pc) went broken for me in august and i contacted emagic support and they sent me a new one. It was all very smooth, with no problems at all.fake wrote:![]()

So at least for excisting users the support seem to remain.
